The Ataneedusu

The ancient Damamillian empire was a magiocracy where almost every citizen possessed some magical power, which they called Antepex and had different elemental and other power manifestations. The Necros Antepex was responsible for the fall of the empire and the Titan Damamillians to become Deadlords/ Deadkings.
In the days before the Fall, the fields and homes were supplied with water by artifacts called Ataneedusu that were tended by the water Antepex Damamillians. Few of these have been recovered and most have been lost or destroyed in the Fall, though they were once common. It is amazing that they were so common that anyone might possess such a magical device.
After the Fall they were not maintained and this led to loss of agriculture and water supplies.  This hastened the death of the land under the drain of the Necros Anteplex.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The magics are simple: an enchantment that amplifies water at a given rank of power and an enchantment of magical power and sealing. The essence of the astral feeding the magic of the device but sealed against tracking and invasion via the link. Or it is using water elemental essence to power it.  The "off" and "on" involve the turning of the cups.

History

The Ataneedusu possess the power to multiply water and produce it in quantities. They were placed in fields. They were found in public fountains. Homes possessed small ones. The Priest Kings of the Water Antepex oversaw the maintenance and production of the devices - a spinning wheel of cups with a round central body about which the cups rotate and a hollow core with lines that fed to the cups from the hollow. Set in a shallow plate or dish or submerged and activated they magnified or multiplied water in accord with the size of the device. The smallest seem to have been bowl sized - maybe 8 to 10 cm across and multiplied water in bowls or pitchers, doubling it every hour. The large agricultural Ataneedusu spanned a meter or more and produced cubic meters of water per hour when active. A few have survived in possession of Taurien cities as conquests of the frequent skirmishes and wars between the nations.
