Dwarf

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are similar to the Human but have thicker muscular structures, skeletal structures, are significantly shorter and have extremely accelerated hair growth for their abnormally soft hair. Dwarves have naturally thin and pale skin due to their subterranean development. Their natural abilities in mining and metal fabrication sometime lead to them developing thicker than normal skin and if they live above ground for long periods of time their skin will take on a darker skin tone. Older Dwarves begin to grow thick calcium rich deposits on their skin that harden and create a bone like outer layer. As the Dwarf ages this outer layer thickens except around the various joints of the body and as the bone like structures thicken the Dwarf loses tactile sense in the skin.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarven reproduction is sexual internal fertilization with an internal gestation period of 10 months. Dwarven infants require significantly more milk than any other species for the first few months.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Dwarf grows physically quickly, reaching adulthood at around 17 years of age; traversing the Newborn, Kid, Brat, Beard-ling and Adult stages. These stages are differentiated by the development of various locations of body hair: growing hair on their head as a Newborn, on their arms and legs as a kid, on their underarms and genitals as a Brat, they begin growing a small amount of facial hair as a Beard-ling and grow hair all over their body as an Adult. Female Dwarves grow much less dense hair then their male counterparts and do not grow beards.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves are biologically adapted to live in most, non-severely hostile, subterranean environments. Dwarves can also live in most places Humans can with the exception of dry, arid locations. All Dwarves must live with access to Vitamin D supplements such as the popular "Solar Dwarf" drink.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves require a constant supply of Vitamin D supplements to survive as their skin is extremely inefficient at producing it. Dwarves require about one full glass of supplement a day in order to stay healthy.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves have normal hearing in air, exceptional sight in low light conditions, and have exceptional olfactory capabilities due to a slightly larger than normal nose.
