Roleplaying Spell Components

If you play as a character with the ability to cast spells, pay careful attention to what components your spell might require. While common over-the-table formats of play usually leave spell components to the wayside, Chromanexus requires players to reference applicable spell components as part of their roleplay when casting a spell.   Consider the following:   If your spell has a Verbal component, your roleplay should include mention of the word or incantation used to cast the spell. Get creative – for example, a cleric might phrase their bless spell as a prayer to their god for direction, while a wizard might instead read a magic formula out of their spell book resulting in a fireball. You don’t necessarily need to explicitly write out what is said, but it should be clear that your character said something identifiably related to the casting of said spell, and indicate what language you spoke in, if not common. Remember, if an opponent doesn't speak the same language as you, they can't identify the verbal component!   If your spell has a Somatic component, consider how you are portraying the movements and pantomimes required to produce the spell. Are you tracing runes in the air with your finger, or a magic wand in your possession? Perhaps you are posing in a particular manner, as part of a dance even. This is where the visual art of the ritual comes into play; get descriptive!   If your spell has a Material component, make sure to indicate how the material component is used or involved, like using the diamond required by the resurrection spell to trace chakra points throughout the deceased’s body or comedically clutching the one single feather needed to satisfy the feather fall spell. If a spell’s material components specify a gold cost, that component must be accounted for in your inventory whether you have a component pouch, arcane focus, or similar item. Otherwise, you are free to substitute your focus of choice for the spell’s specified components.
