Session 15 – The Lost City – Catatonics and Cubes
General Summary
After deciding that Jack and Jill are not an immediate threat or to be overly concerned with the party, bids them good luck and continues exploring.
They happen upon a room that, when viewing it from the hallway appears shimmery as though viewing it through water. This gives Feebs and idea; borrowing a candle from Gunkyn he throws it at the doorway where it chunks and sticks in the body of the now obvious gelatinous cube. Figuring that the cube can follow them they slam the door shut and decide to come back later if necessary.
In the eastern parts of the fifth tier, they happen upon a group of connected rooms protected by some kind of pressure plate in the hallway in front of the door to the first of the rooms. They manage to bypass the pressure plate and then they find the first room full of a dozen Cynidiceans sitting in a circle all just staring blankly. Some occasionally cry out as though having a nightmare but otherwise make no sound nor seem to notice the heroes’ presence.
The second room, to the south of the first similarly is full of Cynidiceans seemingly uninterested in the party. They are all engaged in games of chance – cards, dice, roulette. Gunkyn has a seat at the card game and amazing finds himself being dealt in, and even wins a hand while splitting the pot on another. They note that the room is full of coins and gems all being freely gambled but choose to only leave with what Gunkyn won at cards.
Going to the room north of what they dub the “nightmare room” they find, again, a group of Cynidiceans standing about oblivious to anyone entering the room. These Cynidiceans behave as though at a party – eating, drinking, dancing – but the odd part is that the dancers have no visible partners, and the conversations make no sense.
They choose to leave these apparently disturbed people alone and return to the gelatinous cube room where they defeat the creature and claim the room a spot to take a long rest
