Session 6 - Exploring Cynidecea

General Summary

After leaving the Brothers of Gorm to deal with the goblin bodies you regroup back in the secret room where Gunkyn stashed the loot he stole.

After waiting for several hours to make sure the Brothers would like be back in their rooms, you make your way to the stairs leading down to the next tier of the pyramid. Going past the room Sylbella and Gunkyn found full of food and wine, you come upon a door – next to the door there is a button embedded in the wall with a strange symbol carved in it.

Pushing the button does not do anything so you enter the door which leads to a long hallway. Just inside are eight such buttons all with different symbols. Sylbella, relying on her studies in archeology, deduces that using these buttons the hallway should cause the hallway to move so that the doors line up with other directions. Pushing a button at random, she discovers that she is correct, and the hallway turns clockwise 270 degrees before stopping so that the door they came in shifts from facing south to facing east

Deciding it best to go back to the orientation they started with to continue north, Sylbella pushes the button with the symbol matching the one they saw before entering the hallway.

Continuing along the corridors to the north of the rotating hallway, you come upon a ruined chapel with the word “ZARGON!” painted on one of the walls. There’s nothing of any value here but Feebs notices something odd about the floor along the south wall. It appears to be some sort of trap door.

When Sylbella steps on the eastern most edge, she drops immediately as the area of the floor turns into a ramp leading down to a room below. Thankfully she’s able to maintain her balance and she finds herself in a room with a small coffin and several brass jars and mural of a king and queen being entertained by a dwarven jester – fascinated she steps off the ram causing it to close leaving Feebs and Gunkyn in the ruined chapel.

The two move one of the broken tables onto the ramp and then slowly open it by walking onto it from the hinged side, then use the broken table to wedge so it doesn’t completely shut when they step off it in the lower room.

Finding nothing in the brass jars, they check the coffin which pops open suddenly and an oversized wooden model of the head of the dwarven jester, painted in bright colors, jumps up. Startled but unharmed, they continue out of the room but do not make it far before they encounter a small group of roaming hobgoblins.

The hobgoblins are not at all interested in talking, feeling that the party appears to have “fancy things we can use” and clearly are about to attack. Before they can Gunkyn attempts to cast hideous laughter on one of them, but he apparently is unaffected. Then Feebs casts ice knife but misses as the lead hobgoblin deflects it with his shield. Unluckily for them though the shards of ice strike them all with lethal purchase and they all drop dead.
