Naurcian Pastry

Naurcian pastries are sugary baked goods that originated from the Kingdom of Naurcia, in eastern Arros. Over time, they have become popular all over the continent, which lead to the creation of many variations of the recipe, each suited for the specific region's food resources, such as local fruits and grain. In all of these regions, and like most nicer foods, they are primarily eaten during festivities, such as the numerous religious celebrations or the harvest festivals.

Recipe

The pastry is made with dough and filled with fruit jelly or slices. Maple sugar can be occasionaly sprinkled on top of the pastry and small quantities of maple syrup can be added into the filling
Dough
The dough is made with cold water, lots of butter and salt. Maple Sugar can be added into the dough, tho most prefer a salty dough than a sugary one. The dough is then streched into a large circle and made ready to recieve the fruits
Filling
Apples, peaches, cherries and pears are used as well as many types of berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, cranberries and rasberries which are either sliced or mashed into jelly. Berry jelly filling are more popular in Heoria and Alvaros, as these regions have lots of naturaly growing berries, yet few fruity trees. Fruit fillings, especialy apples and peaches are more popular in Naurcia and Nhaggoria, where an abundance of these fruity trees are located.
Garnish
Usualy, Maple Sugar is sprinkled over the top of the pastry in order to sweeten the dough. If the fruits used are too tart or sour, maple sugar or syrup can be added to the jelly itself to sweeten it.

Regional Variations
A similar recipe, known as Peshi, is very popular in Kavasia. It is a cheap, but filling savory meal. Instead of being filled with fruits, the pastry is filled with meat. The meat that is used varies but includes: Magpie, pigeon, different kinds of fish and even chicken and pork, though these last two are less popular as they are more expensive. Both the original Naurcian fruit filled pastry and the Kavasian meat filled Peshi are popular throughout Arros. In Gysia, Shorai and western Kavasia, the dough may be made with corn flour, instead of wheat Flour, like in other regions.
