And so just like that, 2023 comes to an end. Is it just me, or did this year go by real quick? Well, to be honest, since 2020, i've felt like the years come and go much faster than before. But that just means that i need to make the most out of each of them, right? And that includes trying out new things on World Anvil. In order to keep track of what i want to do, i made a list.
2023 achievements and 2024 Resolutions
In terms of WorldBuilding:
Event participation: Last year, in 2023, i participated in 3 official events. My first ever, SummerCamp, which was exiting and scary, since it was the fist time i was publishing so much publicly. Then Spooktober came around, which was much easier than SummerCamp for me, and just as fun lol. And finaly, worldEmber, which was by far the most stressful. Those last few days kinda reminded me of end of year exams in HS. However, crossing that 25K word mark (My objective) was very, very satisfying. For 2024: i will try to participate in all official events. I particulary look foward to SummerCamp again.
Article Backlog: I have a substantial backlog of half-writen or stub articles that could be fairly easy to complete and publish, so i might dabble into that aswell in order to reduce that loooooong list on the left side of the dashboard. Some don't fit with my vision of this world anymore, so i need to filter them out. I don't know when i'll do it, but probably during the first half of the year?
In terms of Art
Map: I am STILL working on and off on a world map, which should be coming out soon. However, i've decided to give each important landmasses(mostly continents) their own map, starting with
Arros. That way, followers and newcomers will be able to better visualise the locations i've been writing about all year. Also, Arros is the main location for the start of my future book series, so having a detailed map of the place will be neat.
Drawing: I've always liked to draw. But i was always self-conscious about my skills and letting other people see my drawings. I wasn't the worst, and certaintly not the best, but i liked it a lot. During Spooktober, i drew a number of images related to the prompts, that i ended up not publishing. During worldEmber, i decided to just give it a go, and honestly, im happy i did it with these three articles:
Ajax,
Veos: The Blue Moon and
Hoben: The Red Moon. I will most certaintly do it again. I don't know which articles i'll make art for, but i don't want to force it, as that takes out all the fun into creating it for me. I still have those images from spooktober that i could publish...
In terms of Story
Prose/Manuscript: I had not planned to write this during worldember at all:
A mage walks into a Pub.... However, i had this particular scene in my head since i seriously started to work on the story. Plus, i had also been working on
Melwyn's article, and he appears in the scene, so when i decided to do a prose, it mae sense to do that scene in particular. It wasn't easy, since there was only a couple days left, but it was WORTH IT. I loved writing it and i want to write more prose in the future, and maybe even manuscripts(IDK, i still need to figure out how they actualy works). However, unlike
A mage walks into a Pub..., which takes place in the second book, i want to concentrate on scenes from the first book, and especialy ones with lots of dialogue, since i love writing it.
List of Resolution for 2024:
- Participate in ALL official WorldAnvil events to the best of my abilities. (And get those sweet, sweet badges)
- Reduce the backlog of unfinished article by 50%, either by completing them or filtering them out.
- Finish and publish a map of the Continent of Arros
- Finish and publish the world map of Hysal
- Create more drawings to accompany my articles (Especialy the important ones)
- Write and publish more prose articles, mostly depicting scenes from the first book
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME
Here's my top 10 picks for WorldEmber 2024(In not particular order):
- This article is perfect for history nerds like me. I like the description of the slow and realistic way the army transformed itself during their existance.
- This article made me hungry, so i think thats a good sign. The food is well described and i like how casual is it, being street food. I also appreciated that its good enough that even royals got the taste for it.
- The article is very well writen, and contains a lot of details on the history and the peoples of the Kingdom. A very good read.
- A very good article about a really bad illness. I liked how it can affect many species but they all react slighly differently to its toxin. I also think the cure being another flower/plant is pretty realistic.
- The description of the instrument is well detailed and unique(to my knowledge) I also like that it can be decorated with a number of illustrations.
- The description of the market is nice and vivid. It really seems like a nice place to be. The legend about a hidden tunnel filled with ancient relics under the marketplace is also quite intriging.
- This article mad me chuckle. But more importantly, the descriptions of the Castle itself and how it was constructed/created are nice.
- What a beautiful location, filled with cute animals and an (un)trustwordy fairy. Would you like to play a game?
- This article's description of the voices within the fog are very creepy, which i like a lot. I also like how mysterious the origin of the fog is.
- And last but not least, this article is very inspiring for me as an amateur writer. The metro maps are a nice touch and the descriptions of the chapters and acts are clear and interesting.
And Finaly, a big thank you to all the new followers i gained this year, and especialy to the ones that follow this world:
