The Dragonkins of Tomboraan

The Tomboraan plateau, historicaly a rather isolated region of Mahador, is home to one of the largest population of Dragonkin in Hysal. However, what makes them unique is the fact that for most of them, their ancestors come from a completly different continent.

History

While Tomboraan already had a small native dragonkin population before their arrival, most of them today are descendants of a small group of dragonkins who came from northern Enaskia and arrived in Mahador centuries ago. to Mahador from northern Enask. The foreigners numbered around 2000 individuals who had fled war in and around the Salsian highlands. They departed in a fleet of about 25 boats in the year 1274 bc and arrived in Mahador 3 years later. Many tombaraans were skeptical and wary of them at first, but eventualy they were accepted in some cities, and then in most of them. These Dragonkin had also brought choranism with them. The Tomboraan were already somewhat familiar with this religion, since many missionaries from Arros introduced the religion in the country a century earlier, but the dragonkins's arrival revived the religion, which eventualy became the state religion. In the following centuries, the dragonkins migrants assimiliated into the wider Tomboraan population, and became a very important subsect of the region and country's cultural and ethnic makeup.

Culture

Social Life

While most do live amongst other non-dragonkin inhabitants, others prefer to live amongst themselves in small, relatively isolated communities. These are usualy perched in the hills and mountains of the region and fusction a bit like the Arrosian Shapeshifter Clans.

Popular Profession

Most are well intergrated within the general population, which is somewhat unique for shapeshifters in general. Many reside in cities and have become renouned blacksmiths. In fact, Tomboraan metal working is said to be nearly on par in quality with Vrahlian Steel, the strongest known metal alloy.

Religious beliefs

The dragonkins from Enaskia are the ones who largely brought choranism to Tomboraan centuries ago. Eventualy, the kingdom would completly convert to choranism, but their version would be different than that of Arros or Enaskia, because of the strong influence of the native Tomboraani religion, which was similar to the pantheon of gods, celebrated by the Arakan city-states to the north-east.

Customs and traditions

As the tomboraani dragonkins follow the Choranian fate, they observe the same festivities and holidays as the chorani population of Arros and Enaskia. Some details, such as the precise date for some celebrations, aren't the same.

Language
They speak the local language of Tomboraan, which is a language close, but distinct from, Arakan. Both languages are mutualy intelligible.
Major Organisation
While many other dragonkins live in various different countries across the planet, these ones live near-exclusively in the Kingdom of Tomboraan. Some of them might visit the Arakan confederation to the west, mainly for trade.

Interesting parallels and opposites

Much like the tale surounding the dragonkins who fled to the Vechor Islands retelling the story of thir journey from Enaskia to the far away archepelego, the story of the ones who instead fled to Mahador shares some similarities. Both the story of the Vechorian Dragonkins and the story of the Tombaraani dragonkins start by a small group of them being dsplaced by war. Then, they travel thousands of kilometres to distant lands until they arrive in a region they decide is suited for them. But this is were the paraleles stop, as both stories end in complete opposite ways. In the case of the Vechorians, they nearly completly replaced the native population, which was forced to assimilate into them, while in Tomboraan, the opposite happened. The dragonkins there quickly assimilated themselves into the local culture, changing it yes, but also becoming a part of it.
