Chapter 6 - Mists Ever So Deep

When the rest of the party was at the city of the Bay of Thieves, Alexandroth decided to do some snooping around The Capricorn to figure things out. He first came into Dana's room and discovered a peculiar ship in a bottle. Then, he decided he wanted to test it. He summoned a Shadow Demon to terrify the rest of the crew while he tested the ship in the bottle, only to discover it did not work for him. He evidently "slew" the Shadow Demon in order to have the crew trust him, then he told them the superior power of Morganine over Calypso, hoping to gain the ship's trust.   As the rest of the party returned, the party was distraught to see the mess that came upon the ship. Dana was particularly not thrilled with her room being thrashed (courtesy of Alexandroth). As the party went to sleep, two dreams came upon them: Bogun had a sweet dream of being congratulated and even given gifts of gems by President Jacques Maximillian. Meanwhile, Brynn had a nightmare of the Goblin King returning, her slaying it, and regretting it. Alexandroth decided to commune with Morganine, who revealed to him that she has been pleased with his work. He asked Morganine to give him guidance on how to vanquish Dana, to which she revealed only the power of a Wish spell could work to transfer Dana's soul from Calypso's realm to hers. Thus, Alexandroth was instructed to find a Genie somewhere in Bootstrap's Blunder, conveniently where the map was leading to them next.   The ship evidently followed the map and came to Bootstrap's Blunder, which appeared to make the navigation tools go haywire. The party had to navigate through some harsh terrain, until the ship was evidently sunk and destroyed in harsh weather. They also appeared to be followed by one of the Mindflayer's ships, which tried to taunt them. Dana, however, managed to use the Ship in a Bottle to produce a second Capricorn, called The Capricorn II, and used that as an escape option.   However, the party was evidently bombarded by a hungry Hydra, seeking to eat any sailors that came in it's way. At first the part fired cannons at the rocks to block the Hydra's path, but it managed to climb. The Hydra attack the ship, while the Mindflayer Flil also tried to kill some of the party members. Through vigilance and luck, the party managed to tire the Hydra after it produced several new heads. The Hydra fell unconscious from the sheer amount of energy it used to keep making heads. Alexandroth proceeded to slay the creature while it was unconscious.   Getting out of Bootstrap's Blunder, the party navigated through the harsh terrain, and the Mindflayers tried to follow them. Dana used a quick Banishment spell to stall the Mindflayers for a short period of time. This proved useful as the party got out of Bootstrap's Blunder, with a very wrecked Capricorn II. It was enough time, however, to find the Island of Ages, their proper destination.   The party landed on the shores, cutting through dense jungle in order to make it to the Cave of Ages, where the proposed treasure was hidden. Brynn noticed the party was being followed by Gelatinous Cubes, but they managed to evade them. Further in the cave they figured out an anxiety-inducing door puzzle, evaded traps, fought more cubes, and eventually came to a trapped doorway. Inside of the doorway, they found a pile of treasure, and an arabic lamp. Alexandroth proceeded to rub the lamp, revealing a Djinni. The Djinni gave Alexandroth two wishes, leaving the party to make a harsh choice of what they wished to do next...

Relations

Protagonists

Byrnn Inkheart

Once again, Byrnn was questioned about her refusal to kill people, going as far as to saying she would have not killed the Necromancer at Boadella. Even her dreams have left her questioning her decision. Regardless of the other party members questioning her morals, she proved to be very vigilant, yet more silent than usual.

Alexandroth Hapsburg

Alexandroth has grown distrust of Dana, the party, and the entire situation. He feels manipulated and lied to. Thus, he has resorted to scheming and manipulation in order to get what he wants.

Bogun

Bogun's collection of knick-nacks continue to grow, clearly up to something with what he is building. His esteem is high, and his combat prowess even higher, firing impressive shots.

Allies

Captain Dana

Dana appeared to be rather cool with her attitude with the party knowing she was a cursed woman. However, she has begun to grow suspicious of Alexandroth's behavior as of late, and she had become distressed with the mission devastating her ship and crew.

Adversaries

Voggul, the Ulitharid

Voggul is a Ulitharid with a mind of his own, trying to lead the Illithids to prosperity. Yet he finds himself not taken seriously by the party, and his negotiations had not worked. So, he decided to leave the party to die with the Hydra.

Backdrops

Locations

Bootstrap's Blunder

Bootstrap's Blunder was a rocky terrain filled with magical fog that caused destruction to any ship that entered there. It was also home to a monstrous Hydra, a fearsome and hungry monstrosity. It remains as the burial grounds to the first Capricorn ship.

The Island of Ages

The Islands of Ages was a hidden island in the midst of Bootstrap's Blunder, being quite tranquil and beautiful outside of the grey, stormy enviroment that Bootstrap's Blunder was. However, it was guarded by Gelatinous Cubes and remained the home of the ancient dungeon, the Cave of Ages.

Threats

To Tangle with a Hydra!

The dreaded Hydra that made it's home in Bootstrap's Blunder proved to be a powerful foe against the party, growing more and more heads as they desperately tried to protect The Capricorn II. Alexandroth threw demons at the creature, Brynn used her Dancing Sword, and Bogun fired devastating shots toward the creature. Evidently, the foe grew weary and hungry, and ran out of stamina as the party proved victorious.

An Introduction

The Illithids introduced a Ulitharid leader named Vuggul, who offered the party to be spared in exchanged for the tools to find the Treasure of Ages. They refused, and as such Vuggul sent down Flil, the Arcanist, to try and kill the party as the Hydra attacked.

SQUISH!

As the party came to the Cave of Ages, they were bombarded with Gelatinous Slimes, which tried to absorb them. They managed to defeat them in time to continue crawling the dungeon.

Encounters

Demonic Terror on Deck!

Alexandroth proved to be a bit of a troublemaker as he terrorized the Capricorn with a summoned demon. The crew tried to fight the thing, but he kept moving it around. He used this to distract the crew in order to do some of his own bidding, like snooping around Dana's quarters and thrashing the ship. The First Mate, Squallin, started to curse to Maclir under his breath. Eventually Alexandroth "slew" the demon in front of the sailors, convincing them of some of his power.

A Rocky and Rough Ride!

The party had a hard time sailing through Bootstrap's Blunder, realizing how rough the terrain actually was. It sunk the first Capricorn ship, but thankfully Dana had a spare which she kept in a bottle. They used the second ship in order to escape the rocks, and it proved to be swifter.

The Anxiety Trap

The party encountered a strange doorway in the Cave of Ages, which had a countdown timer. At first, it drove them into anxiety as they pushed the button and the room turned dark. However, with experimentation, the party just realized it was for opening the door, which they made it through.

The Magic Lamp

As the party continued into the Cave of Ages they found a Djinni's lamp in a small treasure room. Alexandroth rubbed the lamp, and the Djinni answered to him as a new "master". He proceeded to call Alexandroth "Al". The party began to contemplate what they should ask him for the two wishes he proposed. However, they began to wonder if the Djinni was malicious or not...
