Maclir - The Triton All-Father

God of the Tempest Maclir

Maclir, the Triton All-Father, also known as Davy Jones by men, is the god of the tempest in the realm of Talamh. He controls the realm of the sea and Davy Jones' Locker.

Myths

When Boldur established the creation of earth, it was Maclir who was requested by Brigid to fill the earth with water to help her cause. He did so, and allowed the seas to be made to create sustenance for living creatures. For this reason, the Tritons were called Sea Elves when they were created, viewed as brethren to Brigid’s creation. Brigid filled the sea with creatures while Maclir created storms to benefit the land, working in harmony. However, Brigid eventually blamed Maclir for causing the chaos on in earth as he was the one who created the ferocious seas. Feeling betrayed, Maclir denounced the dwarves and elves, creating the sea dangerous for them to travel in. Only those brave enough to come into his waters he honored.   He is also associated with the myth of Miraica, the Seaweed Woman. According to legend he took the soul of an Elf woman lost at sea and incarnated her as a seaweed woman. He took her as a bride to be with him forever in the sea. However, she does try to go back to land, being reduced to piles of seaweed whenever she does and her soul transferring back to the ocean.

Davy Jones' Locker

Maclir created a specific afterlife for those who were lost at sea. Dubbing it his "locker", he intended it to be a realm where good people would thrive, reliving life as a sailor in a sea that lasted forever. The evil would perish and relive their horrible deaths for the rest of eternity. The creation of this locker made Maclir an unpopular god with humans.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Two waves next to each other, sharp on their edges.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

In the mythologies Maclir became as cold as the depths of the sea, occasionally sending deadly storms toward the land to scare the creatures on land and to erode the rocky creation made by Bolder to proclaim his rightful power. In reality, Maclir simply wants his power recognized by the other gods, being a depressed and lonely god. His creation of the sea, though appreciated by the mortals, does not seem to be liked by anyone else.

Physical Description

Body Features

Interestingly, Maclir is quite bulky in his form, covered in silver scales and having webbed hands and feet as well as scale spines coming down his back, arms, and legs.

Facial Features

His face has the chiseled and rigid structure of an elf, but his eyes are pure, cloudy black. His ears are more like fins. He has an full on beard, a trait all sea elves and tritons share.

Identifying Characteristics

He has spots of metallic blue across his silver scaled body. His hair is notably green on the top of his head, along with his beard.

Apparel & Accessories

He wears patterns of dark blue fabric across his body. Occasionally he'll be seen wearing a fish mask with terrifying teeth.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Maclir just wants recognition and respect from the other gods after he was blamed for causing problems on the realm of Talamh. Through might his goal is to prove that the realm of the waves is just as important as the land and the cosmos.

Virtues & Personality perks

Maclir has a large respect for warriors and anyone brave enough to even sail out into the unknown seas. Those who face his challenges or die heroically at sea he deems his champions, letting them live in his undersea palace for the rest of eternity. Though Brigid betrayed him, he does not blame the Elves for their all-mother's faults, even respecting them. He even respects Tieflings. Maclir does not like his seas being used for crimes, like piracy, and other evil deeds.

Vices & Personality flaws

Maclir is petty for his betrayal. He does not like the other gods and therefore acts bitter towards them. In heart he is cold and weary, but in spirit he is ferocious and brave.

History

Maclir and Brigid are twin gods, being the fore bearers of all that is living. However, Brigid's chaotic nature proved to be what split the relationship between them, creating hatred among Sea Elves and Land Elves.
