Finale: The Dragon of Fenebach

General Summary

Though the thieves got away, Saphira had one trick up her sleeve: she could use a spell to locate him. Casting the spell Locate Creature, she spotted the thief going into a grate with a secret passcode. She desired to chase him, but the party was tired and wanted to sleep after the escapade. So they returned to the Crossed Staves. Saphira attuned to the last Winterstone and an enchanted staff that Aldric made.   Their rests were interrupted by a strange pale woman, named Valerie, who first visited Charles. She wanted one of the Winterstones, but Charles would not invite her into his room and tried to trick her. Valerie then moved to Saphira's room, and Saphira did not wish to help her. Finally, she went to Aldric's room, and Aldric tried to trick her by giving her false stones, but she refused all of them. Defeated, the pale woman left. That is, until the Inn Owner allowed her into Charles' room later that night. Valerie tried to take Charles' Winterstone by force, but Charles fought back while in his pajamas. Valerie was revealed to be a Vampire Spawn and tried to suck Charles' blood. However, the Winter Tribunal fought her, and Charles ended up killing her by utilizing a storm spell from the stones.   With that escapade done, Charles demanded the Inn Owner to re-compensate him for his ignorance. The Inn Owner promised them free breakfast, which satisfied them. Then, they went to sleep. The next morning, all three went their ways to investigate around the town. Aldric was invited to see the Guildhall by one of their artisans, named Mark Handglover, and a halfling named Parsnic asked him to fix their Orrery. Aldric fixed it for them, but learned it was sabotaged and that Mr. Handglover was apparently busy, so he could not be met. Meanwhile, Charles won big at poker. Saphira investigated the sewer grate and met a shady man named Bjarke. Bjarke offered to help her inside, because the Artisans were being held hostage by a dragon in the sewers, named Drukov.   Saphira reconvened with the party, and gathered them back to the sewer. Aldric and Charles did not trust Bjarke, but the man did allow them inside the sewers. The party traveled inside, and Charles accidentally started a methane fire when he ignited his new sword, Flametongue. Saphira and Bjarke were badly burned from this. Further inside the sewers, they were attacked by animated boxes, called Mimics. The party defeated them. Further into the sewers, they heard Drukov, who was discussing his recent acquisition: the Ice Crown.   Indeed, Drukov, the head of the Thieves Guild and Guildmaster, was rather happy to have the crown. The party overheard his plan, that he used the Orrery to create magic weapons for an underground uprising. Originally, Drukov was depending on Ungruld to use the undead army to fill into the city, but with that failed, the dragon had to take matters into his own hands. They also learned that Bjarke was the one who sabotaged the Orrery, because he wanted to stop Drukov in his tracks. Saphira used Sending to contact the Queen to send further guards to assist them, then they presented themselves into Drukov's lair.   Immediately, Drukov was amused by the presence of the Winter Tribunal. He offered the party to join him, since he planned on becoming the new king of Icenglav. He said that Qenlynn Millerstone of Lysandus inspired him, and that he wanted to succeed where she failed. He became the Thieves Guildmaster as a wyrmling and slowly took over business operations, pretending to be benevolent. But with the crown, he could usurp the queen. Charles took the time talking to study his foe, learning the health of the dragon, and then decided to join him. Aldric and Saphira were shocked. Charles came to the side of Drukov, and Drukov asked the other party members if they wished to join. Aldric and Saphira refused, and thus Drukov ordered their deaths.   A violent battle ensued, with the thieves attacking Saphira and Aldric, while Charles turned to "attack" his friends. Drukov, however, calculated Charles' treachery and engulfed Charles and Saphira into a blaze of his fire breath. Aldric began to fire at the dragon, but the dragon's hide was difficult to pierce. Saphira healed Charles, and then the three heroes combined the power of the Winterstones. Together, a powerful whirlwind was formed with the stones, and they used it to attack the dragon. The gold in the room, as well as furniture, buffeted against the dragon, injuring him, but the dragon fled from the whirlwind. Some of the thieves were not so lucky!   Charles used the opportunity to scoop up the Ice Crown as the dragon was going after it. Charles went unconscious from using the crown, as the Tribunal of Kings began to question him. Drukov started to attack the unconscious knight. But Saphira and Aldric attacked the dragon to protect Charles, and eventually Charles awakened from the questioning. Then, Charles used his Ring of Jumping to leap onto the dragon's back and plunge his fiery sword into the dragon's back. It would be a final shot from Aldric that slew Drukov, thus ending the dragon's reign of terror.   At the end of that day, the Winter Tribunal returned to the Ice Queen, Natalia. Charles was reluctant to give the crown back, so the queen used her Mage Hand to grab it back, and placed it on her head. The queen was grateful for their bravery, and declared she would knight them on the Night of Lighting.
~~
Two days later, Queen Natalia started the Night of Lighting. Queen Natalia and Princess Durkavna lit the tree, and then Queen Natalia declared to the audience the bravery of the Winter Tribunal. She publicly knighted Charles, Saphira, and Aldric for their bravery, and then initiated a great party and feast. And indeed, they all feasted...
This was, for now, the end of the tale. Charles would return to Fenestein to become the lord of House Mane, Saphira would continue to be a medicine woman, and Aldric returned to Avenve to show his masters the magical inventions he uncovered. Though, part of me wonders if we shall see these adventurers again? After all, they still have those powerful Winterstones...
