Harold Ebenwald I

Harold Ebenwald I was the King of Brymoor from 4326 to his death in 4349.

Life

Harold Ebenwald was born in the year 4296, to his father Geralt Ebenwald II. He knew his great aunt as Ieasbreda of Halfia, but did not follow in her footsteps, and when Harold became king, he decided to try and rule justly. This was contrary to the nature of his family, but believed that a just and wise rule would be better than tyranny. He was conscious of the future.   In the year 4327, an incident happened within his kingdom. After his wife, Eowyn, birthed a healthy firstborn son, the child was kidnapped in the middle of the night about a week later. Harold was in the chambers near when his firstborn son was kidnapped, seeing a strange owl carrying off the child in the swadling cloth. The Rufusenders were blamed for the kidnapping, as some of their spies were caught coming into Castle Brymoor. However, no evidence was found of the Rufusenders were to blame. This led to a few minor skirmishes between Rufusender and Ebenwald Knights, until they were told to stand down by the other kingdoms, who feared civil war would weaken them.   For the rest of his life, Harold Ebenwald could never stop thinking about the loss of his first son, and sent many knights and adventurers to find the boy. Yet they never did. Harold would have another son whom he named after himself. Yet he largely ignored his son Harold, always wishing for his firstborn to return to him. Harold thus was left feeling unappreciated, and grew bitter towards his father and the kingdom.   Harold Ebenwald I saw the High Kingdom spiral out of control, not trusting the rule of Percen and believing that his family was more worthy to rule as the High King. Conflicts came between the families. Harold died in 4349, blessing his son Harold II to become King of Brymoor. Yet he never learned what became of his first born, and died in sorrow. As he died, he spoke the words,
"May my son who is lost be found again, and through him the hand of Ebenwald stretch over these lands."
