Sunjar was born in the year 4121 in the Temple of Navi within the city of Babash. He was the son of a priest, named Hroskell Goldray. Growing up within the temple, Sunjar was taught the ways of the Lawstone, to worship Boldur, and to go and create in the name of their god. Though he knew the words of Boldur well, Sunjar in his 30's became disillusioned with the Temple of Navi, desiring a deeper religious experience. His father Hroskell suggested to go on a pilgrimage.
So Sunjar travelled east in a period of 40 years for his pilgrimage, into the lands of Lisanricia, and came to the cities of Urshlon and Caleah. Around those cities he heard of a shrine to Boldur in the deep forests. Thus in the night he travelled, despite many dwarves trying to warn him of a "dangerous fey" within the lakes near Caleah. He came to the shrine, a runestone dedicated to "The Father of Creation and the Daughter of Time". In the night, a strange hand poked from the lake, holding a sword. The spirit called herself "Vivian", and told him much of the spiritual world and that of fate itself.
Vivian riddled him, "What is brighter than any light, and flies higher than any bird?" Sunjar realizes that she meant the sun. Vivian then said, "Whenever you look or call upon the sun, I shall be there with thee." Thus, Sunjar dedicated himself to her and began to worship the sun in her honor.
Returning to Babash, Sunjar told his father what he learned on his pilgrimage. Hroskell, however, was not impressed; he told his son that he was engaging in heretical practices and needed to repent from these beliefs. "Worship goes only to Boldur alone," Hroskell told him. Hroskell explained in that the time Sunjar was gone, he was promoted to the High Priest and thus needed his son to obey his whim. However, the enemies of Hroskell heard of what Sunjar was discussing in secret. Kaarim Joram-Son, a rival to Hroskell who envied his position as High Priest, used the words of Sunjar and defamed his opponent. Sunjar himself was dedicated to his beliefs, much to the dismay of his father.
Then, in the dark of the night in 4240, assassins came in to the resting chambers of Hroskell Goldray. He was murdered in his sleep. Kaarim Joram-Son became the new High Priest, and then ordered an inquisition against "the sons of Hroskell, the house of heretics it has become." The inquisition came into the night when Sunjar least expected it. However, the spirit of Vivian appeared again, telling Sunjar, "flee, to another pilgrimage you shall go. To the lands of Goth, you shall be safe." Thus for another 40 years, Sunjar Goldray wandered the lands of Goth, mourning his father and looking for answers in his spiritual journey. Until finally in the year 4282, he heard rumors of a runestone dedicated to Vivian located near the town of Dert, in the duchy of Manneruck.Sunjar in the year 4282, dressed in his armor dedicated to the goddess Vanu-Am.
