Acadia Observatory
Demographics
With the exception of DiMA himself, all of the permanent residents of Acadia are Gen 3 Synths.
Government
Acadia is a commune, so there's no official government, and most of the settlers are left to their own devices and pursuits. That being said, an unofficial council consisting of DiMA, Faraday, and Chase does exist and is the primary point(s) of contact for any outside organizations, such as the Commonwealth Minutemen.
There are no official law systems, but it is understood that crimes such as murder, theft, rape, and the like are not tolerated.
Defences
Most of Acadia's defenses are very simple. A series of wooden walls and catwalks line the perimeter of the observatory, with turrets supplied by the Commonwealth Minutemen at regular intervals to help defend against hostile wildlife.
Industry & Trade
Acadia has very little in the way of tradeable goods, due to the nature of its occupants. With little need to regularly import food, the group relies on the produce from a small subsitence farm and a pre-existing ground well.
However, Acadia does trade in scientific knowledge and engineering concepts. It was Acadian Synth scientists that developed the Fog Condensers that protect the various human settlements from the toxic Fog on the Island. In addition, they'll offer assistance with designing and building defenses for the human settlements in exchange for a peace treaty.
Infrastructure
The most noted bit of infrastructure in Acadia are the massive computers that provide DiMA with additional storage and processing power. Aside from that, there are quarters for the synths that need to sleep, a small farm for synths that need to eat, and well to provide water. Wooden, defensive walls have been erected around the perimeter of the observatory, at the level of the fogline.
Assets
Acadia has very little in material wealth, but the potential scientific knowledge in the group is great, considering the amount of computing power available to the group as well as the general technical know-how of the residents.
Guilds and Factions
The only real faction to inhabit the Acadia Observatory are the synths of the eponymous Acadian Synth Refuge. A single representative of the Railroad, Boxer, lives there, as well the former Courser, Essex (previously known as X6-88). Essex calls Acadia home, but maintains loyalty to the Commonwealth Minutemen, and serves as a pseudo-liaison between the two groups.
History
Prior to the Great War, Acadia Observatory was a scientific laboratory studying astronomy and meteorology.
The Observatory survived the Great War fairly well, with Mount Desert Island avoiding any direct strikes despite the presence of a Vault-Tec Vault. It was abandoned sometime after the Great War until DiMA, Faraday, and Chase claimed it for their synth refuge.
From that point, it has been a safe haven for runaway synths until 2290 when the Institute was destroyed in the Commonwealth Faction War. After 2290, the observatory remained home and haven for synths that didn't want to integrate into any Commonwealth or other human settlements with the help of the Railroad.
Tourism
Due to its relatievly secluded nature, Acadia is not a tourist destination.
Natural Resources
Acadia has little in the way of natural resources. with only a small subsistence farm, a single ground well, and wood from the nearby forest.
