Overview

North East art of the City the early Anglo-Saxons largely ignored the area prefering their new location of Lundenwic. The success of Lundenwic does not detur from the growth around the londinium fort. Alfred the great along with many unknown benefactors continue to fund building projects to improve shipyards and municipal facilities.

Alfred the Great re-established English control of Londinium in 886, and renewed its fortifications. The old Roman walls were repaired and the defensive ditch was re-cut, and the old Roman city became a rival to its twin city Lundenwic
