Hello, my name is Araminta Hawkins, and I'm a soil scientist working for Wild Island Nursery. I'm from Hobart, Tasmania, and I'm proud to call this beautiful island home. My work at Wild Island involves analysing soil samples, developing soil management plans, and ensuring that the plants grown at the nursery receive the nutrients they need to thrive.
I've always been fascinated by the natural world, and studying soil science allows me to combine my love of science with my passion for the environment. I earned my degree in Soil Science from the University of Tasmania and have been working in the field ever since.
As a mother to my 15-year-old daughter, Arlea, I'm committed to leaving the world a better place for future generations. I believe that by understanding the complex relationships between soil, plants, and the environment, we can make informed decisions about how to manage our natural resources and protect the planet.
In addition to my work and family life, I also have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I'm an avid tennis player and love to hit the court whenever I have a chance. I find that the physical and mental challenges of tennis are the perfect complement to my work in soil science.
Another hobby that I've recently taken up is topiary. I find the art of shaping plants into different forms and designs to be both meditative and satisfying. It's a fun way to express my creativity and add some unique features to my garden.
