I was born in the beautiful town of Oulu, just like my dad, Aldo. Our family has always had a strong connection to this place, and from my very first day in the world, I could feel the magic of Oulu all around me.
When I was a little five-year-old, every day was like an exciting adventure. The enchanting forests around our home were my favourite playground. The trees whispered secrets, and sometimes, we saw friendly animals like squirrels, rabbits, and even a mischievous fox once! My friends, Elsa, Niko, and I, would spend hours exploring and playing hide and seek among the tall trees. With Dad's strong and helpful hands, we created secret hideouts in the trees – our very own treehouses. We could see the whole world from up there, and our imaginations would take flight.
Dad was not just my hero; he was the 'construction master'! He taught me, Elsa, and Niko everything about building and construction, even though we were just little helpers. I remember the first time I tried to swing a hammer – it was so heavy! But Dad was always patient, and he showed us the secrets of mixing concrete, building walls, and measuring things just right. It was like creating magic! We loved watching our projects grow, brick by brick. Elsa, Niko, and I even had our tiny toolbox, and we felt so grown-up.
As we grew a little older (but not too much, just a bit), our curiosity about buildings and how they're made grew too. We'd sit with Dad and ask him so many questions, and he'd tell us fascinating stories about making things strong and safe. We'd hang on to every word, our eyes wide with wonder, and we felt like we could build anything!
My mom, Leena, was wonderful too. She's a fantastic artist and knew all about colours and shapes. She taught us to sketch and paint. I'd spend hours creating colourful pictures of the beautiful things I saw in Oulu – like the bright blue lakes and the green, leafy forests. In the kitchen, it was like a magic kingdom. Leena cooked the most delicious food, and she showed us how to mix flavours to make amazing dishes. I even learned the secret family recipe for blueberry pie, and we'd make it together. The kitchen was a place of wonder, just like our forest adventures.
Every year, we had a super special camping trip to Rokua National Park. We'd go with our families, and we'd have so much fun! During the day, we'd explore the lush forest, make campfires, and look for colourful flowers and mysterious animal tracks. At night, we'd gather around the campfire, tell stories, and roast marshmallows. Sometimes, we'd even see shooting stars streaking across the night sky!
We would talk about what we would do when we got a little older. Elsa wanted to become a nature explorer, and she loved watching birds and insects. Niko wanted to take amazing photographs, capturing the beauty of Oulu's landscapes in a camera. We all had our own special things we loved, but we all knew that Oulu's nature, our families, and the fun we had building things would always be a part of us. We dreamed of going on adventures, learning new things, and maybe even traveling to far-off places.
But we also knew that one day, we'd come back to Oulu, full of exciting stories and new knowledge, to make our hometown even better. We wanted to protect the forests, make the buildings in Oulu even more amazing, and keep sharing our love for nature and creativity with everyone.
Who knows, maybe when I grow up (but not too fast!), I'll design the most fantastic building ever – like a treehouse for everyone to enjoy in Oulu's forests. That way, I can keep the love for nature and building alive and share it with the whole world. And the best part is, Elsa, Niko, and I will do it all together, just like we always have!
