Case Number: 2018-1456 Date: 25/07/2018 Reporting Officers: Mark Ingles (Badge #2746), Peter Chalwick (Badge #3208) Incident Type: Suspicious Activity, Theft Location: [Address Redacted], New Norfolk, Tasmania Summary: On 10/04/2023, Officers Mark Ingles and Peter Chalwick of the New Norfolk Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity and theft at [Address Redacted]. Upon arrival at the scene, Officers Ingles and Chalwick were met by the homeowners, Mr. Lance Cradock and Mrs. Amy Cradock, both in their late 50s, who reported a series of unusual events. Details: Upon our arrival at [Address Redacted], we were met by the homeowners, Mr. Lance Cradock and Mrs. Amy Cradock. Mr. Cradock and Mrs. Cradock reported the following events: 1. Package Covered in Vomit: Mrs. Cradock informed us that earlier in the day, they had discovered a package on their doorstep, which appeared to be covered in vomit and red wine. The couple expressed their dismay and concern about the condition of the package. Mrs. Cradock emphasised that the package was left by an unknown delivery person and that they had not been expecting any deliveries. 2. Argument and Complaint: Mr. Cradock mentioned that a heated argument had ensued between him and Mrs. Cradock regarding whether to file a complaint with the delivery company. Mr. Cradock admitted to leaving a soiled diaper by the front door, speculating that the sight of it might have triggered the delivery person's nausea, resulting in the package's condition. 3. Phone Call to Delivery Company: Mrs. Cradock informed us that she subsequently contacted the delivery company and spoke with a representative identified as Garry Finch. During the conversation, Mrs. Cradock expressed her anger and frustration with the condition of the package. Garry Finch apologised on behalf of the company and stated that they would address the issue with the delivery driver. Mrs. Cradock expressed her dissatisfaction with the company's response, emphasising the emotional distress caused by the incident. 4. Garden Gnome Theft: Mr. Cradock and Mrs. Cradock reported that they had noticed the theft of a garden gnome from their front yard. Mrs. Cradock described the gnome as a whimsical figure, approximately one foot tall, with a jolly, rosy-cheeked face, wearing a pointy hat painted in red and green, a blue waistcoat adorned with colourful flowers, and holding a small shovel. She mentioned the sentimental value the gnome held for them, symbolising happiness and serenity in their new life together. The gnome had been standing in their garden since their move to the residence. Actions Taken: Upon the homeowners' request, Officers Ingles and Chalwick examined the garbage bin where the package with vomit had been disposed of. Officer Ingles retrieved the package and a plastic bag containing a soiled diaper as evidence. The package was stained with red wine and vomit. The homeowners were informed that the evidence collected would be taken to the station for analysis, and they were assured that they would be updated on any developments in the case. Conclusion: The events reported by Mr. Cradock and Mrs. Cradock are indeed unusual and require further investigation. The motive behind the vandalism and theft remains unclear at this time. We will conduct a follow-up investigation, which may include interviews with potential witnesses and further inquiries with the delivery company involved.
