Police are investigating the disappearance of Dr Glenda De Bruyn, a GP at the local Hobart Family Doctor’s Practice on Davey Street. Dr De Bruyn was last sighted at the practice on 25 July 2018. Staff reported that Mrs De Bruyn had patient appointments that day but did not return to work on the afternoon of 25 July 2018 and did not arrive for work the following day on 26 July, or today, 27 July. Dr De Bruyn had been treating patients exhibiting symptoms of the mysterious new viral infection.
Dr De Bruyn is a well-renowned member of the Hobart medical community, and an active member of the wider Hobart community. She is noted for her extensive volunteering in Borneo providing medical assistance to the vulnerable. Her husband, Dr Pierre De Bruyn, a General Surgeon at Hobart Hospital, advised authorities that Dr Glenda De Bruyn had not returned home on 25 July and he had not seen her since that morning.
The practice manager, Debbie Lidgard, said she and her staff were making enquiries. The practice receptionist, Michelle Robinson, said she had not noted anything out of the ordinary about Dr De Bruyn’s behaviour on the day of her disappearance, or the days leading up to it. The only unusual matter she could recall was the arrival of two Army officers at the GP practice who requested to urgently see Dr De Bruyn. Ms Robinson states that she showed the two officers to Dr De Bruyn’s office and believed they left only several minutes later. Ms Robinson said she was photocopying materials in the back room and did not witness their exit. The identities of the officers are unknown.
Police are treating Dr De Bruyn’s disappearance as suspicious and ask that anyone with information about her whereabouts contact the Hobart Police immediately.
