Upon receiving information about Luke Smith's flight to Adelaide, Detective Karl Jenkins formulates a plan to implicate Luke in the previous night's incident, hoping to divert suspicion from himself.
In the midst of his growing despair and frustration, Detective Karl Jenkins receives a text message from a junior officer assigned to monitor the airport. The message informs him that Luke Smith caught the first flight from Hobart to Adelaide that morning.
Seeing an opportunity to potentially extricate himself from the suspicion surrounding the previous night's events, Karl formulates a plan to implicate Luke. He reasons that Luke's hasty departure from the state, especially so early in the morning, would cast a heavy shadow of guilt over him.
Karl contacts the Adelaide CIB, relaying the information about Luke Smith and emphasising the suspicion of his involvement in the disappearance of at least half a dozen people, including his partner and brother. He suggests sending a patrol to Luke's parents' house immediately, arguing that if Luke is in the throes of a psychotic breakdown, his family could be in serious danger.
Despite his efforts to steer the suspicion towards Luke, Karl is hit with a heavy wave of nausea and paranoia after the call. The act of planting the seeds of suspicion against Luke does not ease his conscience; instead, it adds to the turmoil and guilt he feels. Karl finds himself sinking into a sea of sickness and guilt, realising the gravity of what he has set in motion.
