Kreel

Kreel is a teal-colored plant that grows plentifully in the southernmost reaches of the Kellerian Empire. It grows easily and quickly, and the people of the area have long ago found many uses for it. For decades the Annual Kreel Festival has been celebrated in different villages every year to celebrate the different uses of this versatile plant. Kreel wreaths are made to celebrate the festival and their spicy smell is known to be soothing. It can be woven and dyed to make clothes and strong rope products. Many of the southern coastal fishing vessels have their ropes and nets woven with kreel and since the area has been officially annexed by the Kellerian Empire, kreel has been further out in new markets. Kreel is also used in food. It has a spicy taste and smell and can be prepared in multiple ways. It can be shredded to make spices to garnish certain foods and kreel cakes and kreel sausage can be prepared as well. The sausage and cakes last weeks without any special preparations, but if wrapped correctly in kreel leaves it can last for several months so long as it stays wrapped. For this reason, they make good travel and field rations. During the kreel festival many different ways to prepare the plant into different kinds of foods are explored and contests are held for the best recipes. The nation of Tabrua is currently in negotiations to buy enough kreel to start growing their own, but thus far the Kellerian Empire has not agreed. Kreel has become popular in recent years and if its popularity continues to increase then the Empire does not want to give up its monopoly of this emerging market. Because of this Tabrua has been engaging in some corporate espionage to obtain enough samples for their purposes.
