The Gnasin
The Gnasin are an organization dedicated to facilitating the return of the Murk to the material plane. The members of the Gnasin are derived from the First Elves who reside in Umfalion, the fey realm. All variations of elf on Colarn derive from this common progenitor. In return for power, the Gnasin would serve the Murk. Each member of the Gansin has power equal or greater than an Archmage. They appear to be very tall and gaunt humanoids with very pale skin and very long fingers, but if one looks closely, the hint of points to their ears deriving from their former elven heritage can be seen. Seeing a Gnasin or even knowing they exist is very rare indeed. When the Murk challenged the gods and attempted to take over Colarn during the Murk Wars, they challenged the entire world. It was the coming together of Colarn's people's and the power of the gods that ultimately was their undoing. As the forces clashed in the material world, so too did the gods clash with the most powerful of the Murk. The gods were able to seal the Murk away on an alternate plane, but unbeknownst to them, the Murk were able to perform a counterstroke before the seal came into effect. After the first few centuries of the Kellerian Empire and Paltroy's existence as nations, the gods themselves found their power waning and the trap being sprung, seeing them sealed away as well. They could still exert their influence on their cleric's, but their servant's powers were greatly diminished, and they could no longer hear the calls of their gods.
The Gnasin, wishing for the return of their masters knew that the cause of their defeat in the Murk Wars was the coming together of Colarn. They know that the star will align in roughly 10,000 years from the sealing to where the Murk will be able to break free, Not wanting to repeat the mistakes from the past, the Gnasin have used the time to erase history. Important documents from that time frame may suddenly disappear from a library or tapestries and artwork depicting the battles would become destroyed in a mysterious fire. Any new innovations in technology are quickly and quietly quashed.
Strangely the Dwarfs of Colarn were immune to the corrupting effects of the Murk. The Gnasin spent centuries manipulating event behind the scenes to drive a wedge between the Dwarf Kingdoms and the Kellerian Empire. As a result, some Dwarfs were wiped out due to the Gnasin giving aid to their enemies and some simply mined deeper and deeper into the planet to the point where no one on the surface has seen a dwarf for millennia.
The Gnasin like to play the long game and have used their prodigious power to manipulate world events to where a single, powerful alliance is impossible. It was impossible until the Askarian Kingdom appeared on Coalrn.
Due to a massive magical accident, the entire city of Askar was transported from another world to Colarn. Using strange technology and with a society that loves new innovations, they became the nation of Askar. At first the Gnasin weren't concerned as for 250 years since arriving on Colarn, the Askarians had adopted a policy of isolationism. When King Bartholomew ascended to power, the policy drastically changed and now nearly all nations on the planet are clamoring to form alliances with Askaria, especially when rumors of them succeeding in fusing their technology with magic. With the seal so close to being broken and the Murk so close to returning, the Gnasin are now scrambling to do what they can to disrupt these proceedings and to continue to keep their master's existence a secret until it is too late for the people of Colarn to react.
