Sunnywood

Sunnywood is a large entertainment district and resort city located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Development began in 2016 and was completed by 2018, the city quickly becoming a major economic contributor to the state and a major landmark for the United States  before a majority of it was leveled in 2020 during the Battle of Sunnywood .

Districts

The city is divided into three different districts that prioritize different elements of tourism and commerce.
  • Sunnywood Pictures: The film is comprised of various studio lots and stages for the production of television and film, both independent and major. Video game developers and animation studios also do lots of business within its walls. Many studios rent lots in Sunnywoodland to shoot on location and because of government incentives. Film output has doubled since its inception and greatly caused both the state and the country's economy to boom. A revitalization of hard-cutting, politically uncensored media that criticized the United States government began to arrive, which earned backlash from Republican supporters of Sunnywood for supposed anti-American viewpoints. Despite this, Sunnywood was allowed to operate independently without impediment from its detractors. A transitionary section between it and the entertainment district exists to promote upcoming projects to the public.
  • Sunnywoodland: A major theme park and biological preserve sits between the film studio and the resort section. Though it promotes upcoming projects from its collaborators, the park is also host to a variety of themed sections.
    • Planet Sunnywood: This section is focused on the motifs of the 1950s alien movie craze and the Roswell incident. Astronauts and aeronautics engineers give lectures on space travel, speculative extraterrestrial evolution, and the history of space exploration. Security guards wear black suits that mirror Majestic agents to be consistent with the theme. It also possesses the largest archive of science fiction and extraterrestrial media for cultural preservation. One of the central points of this section is two major rides, with one being a dark ride where guests ride inside a UFO through space and a large flying saucer-themed roller coaster.
    • Sunnywood East: This section bases its motif around tokusatsu and giant monster movies. It is heavily centered around Japanese culture and aesthetics, possessing the largest archive of tokusatsu filmography and science fiction manga. Entrance to this section leads guests through a giant torii gate and all of the food is strictly Japanese-themed. Authentic sushi and ramen are served, and there are lessons about learning to read and write in Japanese. A major roller coaster runs through the district and is themed around dragons, while a dark ride takes guests through a bombastic fight sequence between giant robots and monsters.
    • Sunnywood Ranch: This section revolves around the aesthetic of the Wild West, containing a shooting range, saloon, horse track, and campground. Though much simpler and quieter, it is still rather popular for its motifs.
    • Sunnywood BC: This section focuses on the natural world and is a large biological preserve meant to showcase some of the most prominent animals on Earth, as well as to showcase ancient cultures. There is a natural history museum showcasing recently extinct species, the process of evolution, and a sizable collection of prehistoric fossils. The biological preserve area was built into the drained sections of the Everglades and houses many exotic species such as the okapi, tuatara, hoatzin, and others. There is also a large aquarium that is the only one in the world to successfully house coelacanths and great white sharks. The aquarium doubles as a breeding and conservation program for horseshoe crabs. Sunnywood has established breeding programs that collaborate with foreign nations like China and various countries throughout Africa. Small sections are accurate replicas of ancient Egypt and Greece for education purposes.
    • Sunnywood Noir: This district harkens back to the early days of Hollywood, borrowing a film noir aesthetic and imagery from New York during the 1930s and 40s. Jazz , big band, and swing music play on the airwaves, and the shopping district is filled with vintage vinyl records and contemporary fashion of the era. Nothing is in color in this district in order to simulate the monochromatic limitations of the time. It contains the largest collection of vintage cars from the era. A museum mirroring the old New York World Fairs displays cutting-edge technology of the time and how it paved the way for modern innovation and details the pioneers of the contemporary industry, ranging from Howard Hughes to Henry Ford.
    • Sunnywood 3000: This district looks to the future and marries the aesthetics of retrofuturism and cyberpunk. It focuses on the technological developments of the future and the strides in robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, self-driving vehicles, hyperloops, and flying vehicles. It houses a museum of the most significant technological advancements of the human race as well as hosts an annual world's fair to promote the latest pieces of technology to the public. The highest-end state-of-the-art roller coasters and dark rides are hosted in such a section.
  • Sunnywood Strip: Though the entire district brings in enormous amounts of money, the strip is the largest of the three zones. It is comprised of many luxury resort hotels and casinos along with gourmet restaurants, bars, and retail stores. Boxing, horse racing, televised poker games, dog racing, Greyhound racing, and monster truck rallies are hosted weekly. A large stadium and an arena comprise a twin venue where baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and hockey are played and televised. The resort hotels and casinos have lavish architectural themes to differentiate themselves from one another and what could be found in Las Vegas. They included an Aztec pyramid hotel, an Egyptian pyramid hotel, a Wild West-themed saloon and plantation mansion, an airtight hotel build entirely underwater, a safari lodge hotel, and a Shaolin Monastery themed hotel. The district also contains various strip clubs and brothels, being the only place in the United States outside of Nevada where prostitution is legal. It is also the only place in the United States where adults under 21 can drink.

History

The city's inception came from the organization Majestic to be a cultural and economic competitor with the Hollywood film industry. With much of Hollywood under the sway of the military–entertainment complex, the entertainment division of Majestic wanted a way to legitimately undermine political bias, government censorship, and military propaganda in order to gain more influence over the American populace. Republican politicians were drawn to the idea of an independent socioeconomic market outside of California, as they believed Hollywood had become too biased towards liberal politics at their expense. Ultimately, they were ignorant of the true motivation and benefactors behind the project. To drive the point home, a scale replica of the Hollywood sign was built atop a hill overlooking the district.   Construction began in 2016 in the northern section of the Everglades , with much of the water conservation area being drained. Despite many protests from environmentalists, construction proceeded and was completed in 2018. It was one of the fastest development projects in United States history and even supplanted California as the largest generator of tourism in the country. A major setback would occur in 2020 where a kaiju would emerge from the Everglades and engage Majestic and U.S. military forces in a battle in the city, which culminated in the kaiju's retreat and a major evacuation followed by a massive ongoing restoration project.
