MT-1 Goddard

The First Jumper

MT-1 Goddard is the historical spacecraft that pioneer the intergalactic travel. According to the records from the Ancient Earth, it was the first spacecraft ever to reach the universal standard velocity of 1 Astronomical Unit per second, or AUS – around five hundred time faster than the speed of light. Once it was built, it opened the great opportunity to reach beyond the solar system.

Construction

The first ship was built in orgit. The space planes had become widespread at the time, allowing the construction to be faster. As the jumper was developed, the various type of engine were also introduced, making it even faster and more safety. Many materials wouldn’t came from the Earth but from nearby asteroid thanks to these engines.

The ship had been built on the very high orbit to prevent operating satellites, taking up to 5 years to complete. In fact, the later generation ships that became smaller and more effective, were built on the Moon instead.

Power Generation

The most important parts are the battery. It has to be recharged every 1 parsec which took them around 1 days to full charged.

Propulsion

Once started, the ship take at least 10 minutes before takeoff, and 2 minutes to reach the maximum speed.

Communication Tools & Systems

It used DSC to communicate.

Hangars & docked vessels

It has to be taken off in orbit or the speed would crushed the ship.

History

Prior to this, the humanity can only travel as fast as the near-speed of light. Even if they could reach that point, it still need years just to escape the solar system, meaning that the only possible effective way back then was the generation ships; selective group of people and pilots living permanently inside one vessel over the centuries long travelling in hope of securing their valuable species. With the introduction of this ship, it can reach the same light-year in less than a day, or Alpha Centauri, the sol's nearest system, in around 3 days. This method of transportation became instantly popular, and this ship could prove it the moment it started the jumper.

The ship were decommissioned during the height of the colonization era when the FTL became commercialized. It has been moved and displayed on the museum on Earth. Many tourist from around the confederation could visit this legendary ship. Believe it or not, the ship barely survived the scotching earth, and with the proper maintenance, it could be reactivated again after seven thousands years standing still in the hanger.
