Gods of Theydim

History

Pre-Adrakian

Not much is known about the Pre-Adrakian beliefs and myths of the proto-Thydian people, and most of what is believed came from the Reconstruction. Among the beliefs restored includes the practice of watching over the dead to prevent mages from bringing back unwilling dead, as well as the Party of the First Day.

Post-Adrakian Reconstruction

Saint Antral returned with her Texts, she brought back the listing of deities and their domains with imagery for examples of how the domains would be defined. Her texts claimed the Adrakian Pantheon had usurped the gods' divine place in society's heart and in their greed, attempted to become gods themselves.   Scholars have, since the Empire's collapse, been tracking down and exploring ruins they believe predate the Empire. However many of those ruins show signs of Adrakian alteration, corrupting estimations for the age of the ruins or depictions found within.

Deities

The Curious Case Of Names
With the exception of the Twins, none of the deities have names and are instead referred by their titles. Not even Saint Antral was able to learn their names, though her writings suggest the dieties are still in the process of recovering their identities while the Thydians are putting their mythologies and religion into the rightful place in society. Nature, unlike the Tormian pantheon, is not a divided force split among the deities, but is instead considered a force of their own while the gods manage people and society. Nature is also believed to be a force no mortal can beseech nor convince.
Children of Nature
Children of Nature are not clerics, but are often treated with the social respect of clerics when they are not treated with fear. The Children of Nature are often semi-mortal embodiements of some aspect of nature - Wood Maidens, for example, are both a single Walking tree and an entire forest the Maiden is a guardian over.

The Craftsman

(Core) Thydian diety of the crafts, time, and the guardian of elders.

Often associated with the elders of society, the Craftsman has a few surviving and reconstructed myths involving him. Most of the stories depict the Craftsman as struggling with the antics of the Merry One or other "younger" deities.

The Lady

The Merry One

Merry One
Character | Mar 12, 2022

(core) Thydian deity of festivities, honesty, and the protector of children.

Often associated with children and protecting children, the Merry One has a mix of portrayals from a child-sized adult to an actual child. Most of the Merry One's stories focus on bringing levity to the dour-minded, and challenging other deities into events for fun.
Merry Folk
Clerics who follow the Merry One are often cheerful folk, and often mistaken for drunkards, but their sobriety takes hold when they take up roles in helping judge crimes.

The Bard

(core) The Thydian deity of boundaries, curiosity and .

The Boundary is a goddess of borders, and often depicted as the gatekeeper protecting towns from wilderness, and protecting the wilds from people in turn. She is also the guardian of hospitality and most of her tenants cover how people treat each other and nature.

Character | Dec 29, 2022

(core) The Thydian deity of Justice, reconstruction, and negotiations

The Negotiator is often called upon in the waning days of a war to guide enemies to a meeting table where peace could be found once again.

The Watcher of Graves

The Watcher of Graves
Character | Mar 20, 2022

(core) The nongender Thydian deity of the dead.

It is believed the Watcher never had a name, just as Their Immenence is without gender. Their Immenence is the deity of the dead, and while a patient deity, they are also not a deity to disrupt nor anger.
The Order of the Dead's Rest
Most Clerics following the Watcher tend to graveyards or perform death rites before sending the deceased to their final resting place. A few are "assigned" to Thydian Undead as companions and to guide the Undead towards achieving their goals and returning to their graves in peace. Burial mounds are often visted by traveling clerics to watch over Mound Dwellers who may have been disturbed by graverobbers.
The Twins
The Twins are a curious duo who seem different from the rest of their pantheon. Some - Non-Thydian - scholars have suggested the Twins were originally a single deity who had been split during the Adrakian Era or during the Reconstruction, or the Twins originate from another, unknown, pantheon and were "claimed" by the Thydians. Most Thydian Clerics claim the discrepancy come from how the Twins have more surviving stories to rebuild an understanding of the gods while the other deities are without names.

Garmen, the Younger Twin

Garmen, the Younger Twin
Character | Mar 10, 2022

(core) One of the Twin Thydian deities associated with adventure - traditionally more a patron of melee combat.

Garmen is the younger twin, and generally depicted as a large human with the strength to swing a greatsword with a single hand. In most stories, he is accompanying his brother or is (often unknowingly) creating the distraction his brother needs. Most of the stories involve him trying to aid the mortals his brother takes an interest in, but he is often waylaid by some aspect or another of his brother's trials. Where his brother will reward mortals handsomely for entertainment or assistance, Garmen often rewards mortals for their efforts with items or gifts to help the mortal with their day to day lives.

Styn, the Elder Twin

Styn, the Elder Twin
Character | Mar 14, 2022

(core)The adventuring Thydian deity of magery and misdirection in combat. The older twin brother to Garmen.

Styn is the elder twin, and generally depicted as a large human of slim build. Most stories describe him as being dismissive of mortals unless they showcase an unusual talent for magic or stealth. In the stories where he takes an interest in mortal affairs, however, often run the mortals through deathly trials before rewarding the mortals with lavish rewards for entertaining or helping him.

Major Religious Figures

Saint Antral

Saint Antral
Character | Sep 15, 2022

(core) Thydian demi-deity, believed to have restored the Thydian gods to power by overthrowing the Empire. At least, according to Thydians.

Saint Antral was a leader of a rebellion during the final days of the Adrakian Empire, claiming she was supported by the true gods of the region and the ancestors of people who call the region home. Her actions in restoring the ancient religion elevated her to sainthood, and many Thydians will take a pilgrimage to her tomb.
