The Fish'n'Whales

You see a sign above a building's entrance. The sign depicts a pair of whales fishing. From the spots, you can identify the whales as the killer whales seen swiming in the North Sea. Considering the building is in Norrasjo's borders, you really wish you couldn't see the logic in the signage. Or the name.
"The Fish'n'Whales - Bed and Ale"

The Fish'n'Whales is a popular place for sailors between ships and sailings to rest their heads after a haul and before going out to find more work. Next door is a house of pleasures, but the Fish'n'Whales has a reputation for serving food worth the coin they charge, even the cheap gruel and water. Sometimes the rowdier guests have been thrown out, and after the first time being thrown out by a retired whaling captain, most straighten out their behaviors.

Most of the menu consists of seafood, but often breaded and fried in liquidized pork fat.

Type
Pub / Tavern / Restaurant
Parent Location
Origin: Players entered Port Frostfind, the city I described where the main industries were fish and whaling. One of my players asked if there was "Fishin'Whales" soooo here we go.
Fish and fried 'tatos - made with whatever's caught fresh off from the Lemon cod Market. Fried shrimp when it's in season, clams too. Most oyster-eaters prefer theirs not fried up.

Several retired sailors have found themselves gaining weight from eating at the Fish'n'Whales, leading to the slang describing a wealthy person as a "whale" because sailors were often paid upon arrival at a harbor instead of the end of each work day or week.

Due to the proximity to the house of pleasure, the two businesses have an agreement where one of the employees would be on loan each night to help remove unwelcome guests

You do a mighty fine flavor article with quotes and the feel of the place and people. The scent of the pork grease fried fish and chips, and other goodies, the sea and cold leak out. The rowdy and loud sailors and residents. Good job.

Awesome! Quotes are fun to use, and I'm always glad to read that someone enjoyed the article. I'm also delighted that I conveyed the idea of this "sailor's favorite place"

My mouth is watering a little at the description of the food. This sounds like a really good place to take some time off from the sea. :D

I fully admit - the Fish'n'Whales is in a town that's basically Seattle, Washington in the US if Seattle were stripped back down to the harbor it was originally. So take your local on-the-harbor seafood restaurant and feast away. I did have to scour my brain for a way to "deep fry" food and recalled that pork was often the food of the farmers while beef was a cash crop - therefore pork fat would be more plentiful. And I wanted fish and chips in my world. Fish'n'Chips are the best food, hands down.

I live in an English seaside town. Fish and chips are a staple!

I know, right?! (I live loosely around the Seattle area, to the point where I'm a seafood snob) But I'm glad I was able to capture some of that seaside town feel.
