In general, Thei keeps his personal life and his professional life separated - as do many others among the criminal underworld - and has kept quiet about his past.
Early Life
Education
It is said he was taught the art of being a merchant and a smuggler by someone who was from the "apprenticeship line" of the Marmalade Merchant who gave the illicit trade its alternative name. However, rumors of this kind of training also attaches themselves to anyone of a particular skill.
Employment
Thei is both a legitimate merchant and a smuggler, depending on what he's doing while on the route.
He would occasionally entertain his fellows within the trader caravans by singing and telling stories.

He was arrested for smuggling masks taken from Faceless Fae into Theydim as a tourist item. It is uncertain how many successful smuggling runs Thei had made with such masks, though it is suspected that the merchant was extremely wealthy from his side dealings. Thei was released on bail and a two year ban from Felkhath City and has not been arrested for violating his ban.
