Gaius

Gaius is a rival and former colleague of Thurmacc and an agent of the Blue Frogs. He suffered injuries at a young age that would have left him an invalid if not for cutting edge auto-limb technology. As such Gaius has always been a firm believer in the power of artificing and often opposes the strictures that the Koan Republic places on it.   As a young artificer, Gaius was often threatened by Thurmacc's engineering talents. To distinguish himself, he often gravitated toward the political and administrative aspects of artificing, focusing his efforts on things like building contacts and securing funding that many mechanically-inclined artificersw overlooked. Despite their rivalry, both Gaius and Thurmacc shared an interest in pushing the field of artificing forward.   The Board of Artificers received a blow when Thurmacc left their ranks, but it created opportunities for Gaius to acend their ranks. He found great success acting as a liaison between Thurmacc's new grey-market operations and Republic officials willing to fund and benefit from such legally dubious endeavors.   Gaius used his connections to secure Thurmacc's new crew with a lucrative contract to make modifications to a deep-sea exploration vessel called the Iron Whale. Little did Thurmacc know, their clients were none other than the Blue Frogs, a secret organization who sought the return of the Koan Empire.   However, Thurmacc's new boss Fortunio renegged on the agreement, instead using the funds to turn the Iron Whale into a rocketship to voyage past the Rim and seek out the Orphan Sphere. Gaius caught the ruse and showed up to Fortunio's launchpad with military forces. However, Thurmacc managed to sink Gaius's ships and see the Iron Whale safely to launch. Gaius was left injured in the battle, forcing him to replace more of his body parts with auto-limbs.   Gaius got his opportunity for revenge when the Blue Frogs captured Thurmacc insided their very own headquarters. The Blue Frogs attempted to brainwash him into joining their cuase, but the Party intervened and rescued him.   When the Party destroyed the Blue Frogs' headquarters, Gaiuse went after them in their submarine the Sea Snake, ordering his men to take Thurmacc in alive. The Party managed to destroy the submarine and escape the wreckage. Thurmacc returned to the surface unsure if he had finished off Gaius for good, or if he might return to haunt him again with even more robotic limbs.
