Octavia

Octavia is a high-ranking official in the koan Board of Artificers and former mentor of Thurmacc. While she was supportive of Thurmacc's talents, she attempted to guide him away from using those talents to create artifices that might pose harm to society.
Eventually, Thurmacc grew frustrated working under Octavia, feeling stifled by her--and the Board of Artificer's strictures--and set off to join a new group under the tutelage of Octavia's former colleague, Fortunio, working on grey market projects of questionable legality.
Octavia's warnings, while reaching deaf ears, proved accurate in the end. After a dispute between Fortunio and members of the Blue Frogs who had secretly hired him, the rogue artificer literally rocketed himself and all of his crew into space, leaving Thurmacc a castaway.
It took months of searching, but Octavia was eventually able to find him along with the help of another contact--the leader of the Corsairs, Jin Bei. She helped secure Thurmacc a nomination into the Corsairs, realizing that if she could not contain his talents, perhaps the Chimera Alliance might find better use for them. Octavia remains friends with Thurmacc, still trying to gently guide him toward using his gifts responsibly.
