The Pontiff

Once head of the Ecclesiarchy and one of two right hands to the Crimson King, the Pontiff in life was in charge of distributing blood to the sick or dying. During the downfall of Lunarym and ever-hateful of the monsters his followers began to turn into, he came to the discovery that by filling the arteries of the dead with the old blood they would become mindless thralls that could combat the plague of the Crimson Curse. In the final days of the Lunarym kingdom his followers and himself held out within the cathedral ward and prevented the denizens of the eternal night from discovering the old blood stockpile the church had stored. Now after the kingdom's fall, he is an arbiter of the old blood seeking to disrupt the corruption it brings to those who ingest it. However his methodology is alien, he raises the corpses of dead citizens and adventurers into his sanctified legions, their only two orders to protect the old blood and to destroy any who seek to discover its secrets.   The Pontiff believes he is righteous. He regrets transforming the corpses of those he once helped into horrid church guardians, and he considers their transformation to be necessary, to contain the madness roaming the Isles. Truly though, his mind is as alien as the old blood he reveres. He holds no problems administering righteous fury to those he deems to be mutants or corrupted by the blood, and no longer understands the intricacies of gray morality, only a twisted black and white. After the Condemnation he ascended to that of a celestial, viewing himself as a righteous martyr for the King and his subjects.
