Canolith

Canolith is the smallest major island in Unitia. Previously known as Anchorite's Isle, it received its new name when it was designated the permanent host of the World Synod of Craedock. It is an island of monks, ran by a temple hierarchy, that exist off the food they farm and the tithes brought in for the Synod from all over the world. The island is considered its own sovereign nation and maintains a purely defensive militia and navy.
The island is dominated by plains, mostly grass and wheat, with minimal forests. It hosts several temples, an arena for festivities during the Synod, many farms, and the Equinox Atheneum, a library that holds archives of all the world's lore. The Atheneum is considered sacred and holy, granting highly restricted access to outsiders, and anyone entering the library is closely shadowed by an entourage of monks.
Canolith's aesthetic government remains neutral in all foreign affairs, with the exception of their highly influential religious decrees at the Synod. They will, on occasion, host meetings between foreign countries who wish to seek diplomatic resolutions on international matters, acting as moderators or arbiters, so long as such gatherings do not become violent. They are regarded very highly by most other governments, and the strategically uninteresting location of and lack of resources on their small island grants them much immunity to assault.
They have, however, been the target of some invasions by the most nefarious and ambitious kingdoms over time, but all have been fended off by their highly elite navy and militia. Indeed, the fighting prowess of their combat monks and the adept seafaring abilities of their vessels have lead many to believe that the island is truly selected by the god and goddess as a holy place worthy of protection. Even the Church of the Obelisk was unable to invade the island, instead surrounding the island with the naval forces to prevent the Synod and in an attempt to gain religious influence over Craedock. One Obelisk veteran's tale, now infamous, declares that the most powerful peacekeepers of Canolith were able to summon warrior angels at will in order to defend their homeland.
