End Crystal Towers

These pillars of obsidian shoot into the sky, carrying at their highest point a large floating crystal that pulses with light.   The crystals are multipurpose, and are concentrated points of powerful magic; the slightest touch will send the magic spiraling out of shape in a visceral explosion. But no one does that on purpose, of course, due to the importance of these crystals and their heavily guarded locations.   The following are just a few of the crystals' intended functions:
  • They are touchpoints of communication that allow information to be sent along vast distances faster than light
  • They are information hubs, storing information until its intended recipient receives it or the crystal is destroyed
  • They are peace points, due to their ability to heal those in the vicinity, and the explosive danger is treated carefully
Each end island holds at least one crystal, communicating back to the Hub Island to inform the Ender Dragon of any developments and general day-to-day matters.   The crystal is purplish in color, but is actually a transparent cage for the magic; the magic is what gives it its color and ever-shifting glow. The crystal requires a circle of solid obsidian, and the thicker the layer the more information it can store and the farther it can be transported. Due to obsidian's nigh-indestructible nature, the material serves as a phenomenal information protection safety precaution; however, due to its involvement with water and lava to create it, there is no real way to create more at this point in time. Relations with Netherborn are perfectly fine, making lava a non-issue, but Overworlder relations are nonexistent at best.   Enderian researchers have developed ways to store information in cubes of certain materials and managed to figure out ways to contain information overload via SEE-YA technological developments, made in response to the glitch.

Interesting that even though it is high magic, it has flaws and ways to fix those flaws, I also like the idea that it has multiple uses.

Thank you for the comment!! It was fun to expand upon what makes this magic so powerful and so precarious, and I hope to figure out some more uses or more mechanic-based descriptions if I end up using it for a D&D game. Thank you again for your comment, it means more than you know <3

There's so much worth loving in this world. You are one of those things.
