Kothic

Kothic is its own separate branch of the Human language tree, diverging from Eovoresh and Caleadan around 400 AFR when Humans first settled and began farming the Vidusa Lowlands. The language developed in near isolation (Koth is geographically isolated by the Stonelands to the South and the Evergraves to the West) until the Voran Empire conquered the Koths circa 1800 AFR. The language survived, however, absorbing elements of Eovoresh throughout the occupation, but remaining essentially intact even through the Turning of Koth. It is considered a 'heavy' language with relatively complex grammar and unwieldy compound nouns. Indeed, native speakers tend to have the most trouble learning Eovoresh fluently, more so than any of the other Human languages. Most speakers have thick accents, conflating many vowel sounds and unable to pronounce certain consonants. Ironically, they are unable to pronounce the ubiquitous 'th' phoneme found so often in Eovoresh, even though it is in the spelling of their ethnicity and language. Koth, however--in Kothic--is pronounced 'koz'.   Kothic had no sophisticated writing form until traders brought the Hycin and Eolic alphabets during from Braeus around the 1200s. However, Vampire Lord Vaekenral codified their own writing system, deemed the Kothic Alphabet in 2022 AFR.
