Cres

The Cres are the only species on Crescier born sapient, and named themselves after the planet they call home. They are a truly unique species, even among the vast array of life surrounding them. Created by the oldest Beast to have ever lived as a way to push life forward, The Cres are each born with a connection to the lifeforce of the world. Though weaker than what is had by Beasts , this connection grants them all the same advantages as the Beasts but from birth. Sapience, heightened intelligence, a heightened affinity for Runic, and as a slight twist from Beasts own physical morphing, newborn Cres will quickly adapt to the environment they are born in. While originally one people, the Cres eventually began to spread out across the land, settling in different places. At first these separate tribes still called themselves one people, but time and distance are the enemies of unity. As the tribes began to change physically to suit their different homes, cultures started to shift as well. Soon the people began to see themselves as part of their tribe first, and the greater species second, giving rise to the current list of sub-species (listed at the right under "Ancestry/Origins").

Naming Traditions

Since language in this world is magical in nature, names have certain constraints that go beyond culture and tradition. Names are not chosen by one's parents; instead, children are born with names already. These names are a product of the magic inherent to Crescier. Since runic, and the spoken form of it through extension, can never be false, neither can names. Each name is therefore unique to an individual, and speaks of who they are and who they will be. Since people are so complex, most only get a brief impression of the meaning behind a name when hearing it for the first time. There are some though who make a living selling name reading services to those who desire to know more about themselves or those around them. This profession is seen as a scam by many, but there are a rare few who truly can see deeper into the meaning behind a name than others.
