Runelords

Qualifications

To become a Runelord, one must have graduated the Academy and then either discover and master an unknown Rune, or create a significant advancement in Runic technology.

Appointment

A new Runelord is appointed through a short ceremony where every other Runelord is present. The new Runelord is presented with their new robes of office, and must add their name to the Runic Contract of the Runelords, binding them to office.

Duties

The moral obligations of Runelords were to provide peace and the necessities of life to The Many. They were meant as a neutral faction between each of the different cultures of their people, to settle disputes fairly and keep the peace.

Responsibilities

Runelords were government officials as well as Runic researchers and when necessary, weapons of war. Their responsibilities included teaching younger generations Runic, developing new Runic technologies, and voting on matters of government.

Benefits

A Runelord is granted a significant salary to use as they please, as well as access to all the amenities of the Academy. This includes servants, regal housing, laboratories, etc. In addition they gain significant political power and autonomy.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Formal uniforms were tailor made for each Runelord upon induction to the order. Each Runelord was allowed some freedom in the design of their uniform. The primary color of their station was purple, as a reference to the glow of active runes, but individuals were free to choose a secondary color. This color was usually a way to represent the individuals area of Runic focus.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The only way for a Runelord to lose their title was to break the Contract of the Runelords. This would lead to a backlash of power which would burn out their connection to the runes, and often leave them crippled for the rest of their life where they would live in shame.
