I was told to write this journal because I am forgetting things. I need to read this every cycle when I wake up to help me. Here are the things I need to know.

We live in Crevice on the Hydro Strata. I used to be a Knight, but I am not any longer. Even if I wake up believing I am. I am not a Knight.

Stern Smoke
Not every plant from the Cryo Stratum has a good use. The Stern Mold is a rare mold that that only grows in a few dry caves of cryo. This dark brown mold was first thought to have some interesting properties. Boiling the dried mold can create a greenish smoke. In inhaled, it will create a confused state that allows people to be manipulated and more trusting. This was commonly used by the
Light Knights to get information from cultists.
Stern Lines
After several years of using the Stern Smoke, as odd side effect was found. Several Knights became afflicted with purple lines across the skin. It usually impacts the fingers and hands, in some rare occasions it can be found moving up the arms towards the shoulders. There are some treatments that can reduce these lines, but it was found that this was only the first symptom and the least troublesome.
The Lost
About a year after the lines appear, another symptom appears, memory loss. This starts with simple memories of long past events, but accelerates to recent and important memories. Many victims will lose much of their lives in within 2-3 years of the first memory loss. These people are called the Lost. Some can be found wandering the streets in a confused state and need to be escorted back home.
The Lost Knights
This condition seemed unusual as it seemed to only impact veteran Knights. It took quite a bit of research to finally realize it was due to the use of Stern Smoke. The Knights might inhale small amounts of it when working with it and interrogating cultists. Since the cultists were usually executed after the interrogation, there was no real research into the long term effects. Since this discovery, the Knights have said they are improving the safety of the Knights while using the Smoke and have reduced it's usage. About 20% of the Knights lost their memories during the first 100 years. This number has been reduced to about 1% now.
