Daikini

Millennia ago, when gods walked the earth with men, the sun goddess Amateratsu kept a pet fox. A mortal fox like any other it eventually grew old and sickly. Knowing the power of her divine blood, Amateratsu ripped out her own pancreas and fed it to the beast which not only gained new vigor but divine powers and intellect. The fox, Daikini, transformed herself into a humanoid form so that she might speak and better connect with her friend. Years later Daikini gathered 81 foxes and granted them human like forms and intellect as the Kitsune people and they worshipped her as their god. When Geimiir saw this he decided to create his own beastfolk, 12 races to combine the cleverness of a human hunter with the physical strength and instincts of a wild predator. When they lacked the bloodlust he hoped for he abandoned them and shot an arrow through Daikini's head in his frustration. Post mortem she is still venerated by the kitsune for their creation and much of their worship receded to worshipping her creator, Amateratsu, like a divine ancestor.
