Muriel invites the Crooked Mile Circle into the Manor House to investigate after being told by Ernest Roe they could not enter the home. She suspects Ernest is working with Jason's brother, Lenny to keep his allies from looking through his files and schedule. Ernest was employed by Jason four monts prior on the recommendation of Lenny. He doesn't spend much time in the house, but he lurks around the Tower and the caves. Muriel worked for the Garamunds when they operated Seasway's Resort Hotel before the Six Year War. While she didn't know his parents well, she knew Jason because he was intersting in cooking. She started out in the kitchen helping the chef. When visitors stopped coming to the Hotel during the war, their French chef left and Muriel took over the kitchen. Jason likes her basic comfort dishes and in particular her fruit pies. Rhubarb is his favorite.
Jason wasn't friendly with parents. He considered Muriel more of a mother than his own, even though they were only a few years apart in age. The only worry he has about Muriel is whether she can keep his secrets. She never made judgements about his past scams. She once told him that the hotel fire and insurance fraud he conspired to commit was a last effort to save his family's savings. Jason isn't sure she still feels the same, but she is the only person he can count on to help him hold on to the Manor House. The Manor House property was bought long before he committed the crimes that haunt him.
