Cawelt

The Titan Mountain

Created by Augorax in his own image Cawelt was initially nothing more than a flawed copy, but over time Augorax reshaped his creation, smoothing out the flaws and perfecting it. Initially, a flawed duplicate, Cawelt now more powerful than Augorax lashed out, done with his creator's constant prodding and tweaking, the first blow still echoes trough existence, and augorax' strikes chipped Cawelt's body and these chips litter the cosmos, creating the stars. In the end, Cawelt broke trough this creator's defenses, and with a last and mightiest of blows, Augorax was cost into the cosmos, crippled and maimed. Cawelt wounded and damaged slipped into a slumber, one he would never truly wake from.   As eons passed and Slyduhl, Dariël and he created and shaped the world, Cawelt once more returned to his slumber, chained at the hearth of his creation, condemned to never move among the stars. Now at the heart of all creation, the massive shape forms the foundation of all we know, being as unchanging and uncaring as the mountains.

The Ethos of Cawelt

Removed far from the lands and squabbles of men, Cawelt has only a single concern: Ensure the world is stable and constant. To this end, he directs his Chosen to repel extra-planar threats and thwart the Schemes of Slyduhl. Cawelt embodies both the essence of the world as a celestial construct, and his existence is considered a universal constant, and his being is a synonym to stability. As such it's not very strange that signs of Cawelt are present in many foundations and military defenses. Cawelt never directly interferes with the lives of mortals, and only the most devout of his chosen are directed albeit rarely. These most devout of the Chosen describe this phenomenon as the "Call of Cawelt", of which many reports circulate, no two exactly the same but sharing similar aspects, the most prevalent of which is a subterranean decor.

The Call of Cawelt

Many of the chosen of Cawelt has served for many years and will do so for many more, as the directions of their patron are few and far between as such many who serve will do so for decades without a call to duty, as such most humans who join the faith might experience one such event if they're lucky, but the longer-lived races, like dwarves and elves, will live long enough to experience more of these events. As a result, many of the high-ranking members of the Chosen are those with an exceptional lifespan.   The Call of Cawelt only happens roughly once per century, but when it happens it stirs the Chosen into decisive action. During this event a seemingly random number of creatures all over the world perceive it, but a single creature can only hear the call once in their lifetime, the only exception is the elders, who hear every call, but don't experience it. Those that experience a call are often so in awe that they'll join Cawelt's Chosen soon after and are held in high regard.   Those that experienced the call are questioned to determine the intent of their patron, a process that often takes many Cinques. When this intent is clear, no effort is saved to ensure this demand is fulfilled.   But as these occurrences are quite rare, the long period of time in between is spent maintaining their position of power, patrolling the fields of Faith, Providing assistance to the local authorities, and keeping an eye on both the Schemes of Slyduhl and the Disturbances caused by Dariël. These large periods of "inactivity" in between these bouts of massive action have earned them the nickname: "The Sleeping Giants". And even though they keep out of politics as much as possible, many rulers are well to heed their Dogma, as there are enough stories of organizations that thought they could encroach on the Chosen's properties or rights.   According to legend, the most devoted inner circle members of the faith possess the secret of immortality, which while not proven seems quite likely, and has drawn the attention of the Faithful of Troirin.

The Chosen of Cawelt

The Chosen of Cawelt consists of a rigged hierarchical structure, the only true way to earn a higher rank is experience, these are: Initiate, Acolyte, Awoken, Priest, and Elder.
  • Initiate: These are those that have only just joined the Chosen, and those that still need to earn their stripes. Their regiment consists of reading the scriptures, maintaining the places of worship as well as serving as the Faith's Militia.
  • Acolytes: After many decades of dedication an Initiate might become an Acolyte, these maintain the knowledge of the faith, spread the word of the religion, and serve as messengers for communication, as well as being in charge of the militia.
  • Awoken: These are the ones who have heard the Call of Cawelt, and as such have greater privileges and responsibilities than Initiates. Their rank is similar to the Acolytes, but they also are a member of the council, in addition as they are most likely joining just before some major event it is not unheard of that they make it to priest relatively quickly. These also serve as questing knights, searching out Slyduhl's touched and stopping their schemes.
  • Priest: Members who have served among the chosen for at least a century, and have proven themselves highly devoted and capable. These make up the council which decides upon the actions of the local chapter. In addition, these are well-known members of the community. Smaller chapters will have a single Priest who leads the chapter.
  • Elder: The most devout and loyal of the faith, it requires at least 2 centuries of devoted work and an exceptional track record, as well as having heard the Call of Cawelt. The ritual during which en Elder is chosen results in them becoming far more perceptive to the call of Cawelt, ensuring they can hear once again, this also results in them allegedly being able to hear the hearth of the world. They also make up the core of the Chapter's council, with their decision being leading.
Aspects of the Religion:
Structure: Strict hierarchy
Activities: Ensuring the stability of the world, ensuring a basic semblance of order around the Squares of Faith.
Religious Gesture: Bring your hands together in at eye height with only the tips of the fingers touching, creating an upside down V-shape, then while looking downward bring your hand downward maintaining the V shape for as long as possible. breaking when passing your abdomen.
Mantra: We are as Cawelt, everpresent, always enduring.

Relations

The Chosen of Cawelt, idle for most of their lives only undertake a handful of manor action every lifetime, but although few and far between these events clash with both the Observers and the Touched as these conquests seek to right some major imbalance in the world, which could've been caused by either scheme from Slyduhl, undoing the work of the touched, or a disturbance in the weave, undoing the work of Dariël.   From the Elder gods, only the faithful of Troirin have proven themselves to be in opposition to the Chosen, which believe that immortality is only for the gods. This conflict was sparked by rumors of the Chosen possessing the secret of immortality, and where it started as a request to destroy this unholy power, a request denied for obvious reasons, it has since devolved into cases of espionage, veiled threads and in rare occasions open conflict.

The Codex of Stone:

Exert from the Codex of Stone, the commandments which all devotees of Cawelt should abide by.   All who serve The Titan mountains should be as he:
