Inheritance in the Tawney Shore
Who holds the regency:
- The Regency of a house is held by the most senior member of a house who is both willing and able to hold the regency of the house.
- The Regency of a house is shared between the lord and their fiancé, and both members are expected to uphold the honor, name, and integrity of the house.
- Failing to do so could be a valid reason to nullify the marriage, or even declare the lord/lady unfit to rule, causing the regency to fall to the next valid heir.
The passing of the regency:
- If a married lord or lady dies, or (on)willingly passes on the regency, the regency will, in case of a marriage with offspring go to their fiancé otherwise the regency will fall to the next valid heir.
The Valid Heir:
- If the house has no offspring or living members carrying the house’s name, the house to which the house was subservient will decide what will happen with the lands of the house, most likely handing it to another lord or lady standing in good graces, this does happen very seldom, however.
- If the previous ruler had any offspring of mature age, with scales matching the house color, the regency will fall to the oldest of these, provided they are capable of ruling, and not married away to another house. If they are deemed unable to rule, the regency will fall to the second oldest, which might or might not be able to rule, going to all the house scale-colored offspring.
- If no offspring of houses’ scale color is capable of ruling, repeat the same for offspring not matching the house color.
- If the previous ruler had no offspring but did have a brother or sister, the regency will fall to one of them, going through starting with the most senior member and their offspring first.
- If no qualify, the regency will fall to a council which will be assembled by the lord’s right hand, or the most capable person if the former isn’t available.
- If any of the offspring reaches a mature age or becomes capable of ruling once again, it is once again determined who should receive the regency.
Flow Diagram:
Adhere to tradition or be replaced by someone who does:
These are the laws by which the The Veglye Province has governed itself for centuries, and every lord and lady would be wise to consider stepping over these. As such, every infraction upon these rules, no matter when no matter how and no matter how many generations back this happened, justice shall be had and the tradition shall be restored.Blood above marriage:
As the Dragonborn favor purity of blood and don’t specifically treat females any different than males Succession is mostly decided by blood ties. Favoring the offspring which matches the houses’ scale color.Offspring, quality over quantity:
As the ancient scrolls decree, which the conservative Metallic Dragonborn feverously uphold, a family is expected to have a maximum of two sons and two daughters. This originates from an ancient belief that upholds that those with fewer children have better children. This is not as well adhered to by the chromatics.Offspring, Color:
When a Dragonborn produces offspring (which it can only do with another Dragonborn) the color of the offspring is an equal chance between the color of the mother and the color of the father.Keeping it in the family:
Incestuous relations are frowned upon in every case, however, it will not result in more severe actions or sanctions if the relation is between cousins, or further removed, otherwise, it could be a reason to see that house removed from power. The Scale color of a house:
The scale color, which determines how the house is seen in the greater scope of things, determines among others Succession preference and is reflected in the houses’ sigils and crests. The color of a house can change, especially as a result of a different color marriage of which the offspring seems to favor the non-house color. When two successive generations of rulers have been of a different color than the house color, the house color is changed.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
