The Veglye Province

General Information

Written by TheSneakyDestroyer

An almost fairy-tale like region with two opposing factions which are grounded in their draconic nature. From up high the Veglye dragonborn lords and ladies see themselves far above the non-draconic rabble that tend to their villages andfarms. All while their nature in an extend dictates how they treat their lesser and neighboring regions.

The Metallic Alliance, following the lead of the golden Saturim:

The Veglye province is divided in 13 smaller provinces, six of which are rules by a dragonborn of the metallic variety. These are as follows: Golden haven: the largest of the regions where the golden Saturim resides, Library of Brass: named after the biggest store of knowledge in the region, Bronze Bastion: hardened by constant conflict with the Whites from Frozen Harbor, Tawny Shore: where conflict with whites is once again not far off, Copper Spire: Once the first line of defense for Golden Haven, now a blooming region and Silver Gleam: Separated from the other Metallic regions fully self-dependent but not very rich. The general attitude of these Nobles is in line with their nature and often dealing with the various lords in their region. But when the Chromatics go on a rampage or when their ruler demands it they will rally together.

The Chromatic Chaos, order through the might of the crimson Xardaar:

The remaining 7 provinces are controlled by the Chromatics. Which are as follows: Scorched Coast: The most “wealthy” of the chromatic provinces and home to Xadaar, burning one of his many villages to steal wealth and provide home new peasants and raids to nearby regions aren’t uncommon, Tyrants Respite: Home to various black dragonborn, and many peasants who are in constant threat of them, not mortal danger, unless they try to escape, Cerulean Cliffs: Home to various cavernous castles and glistering cities. Many places to reside and as many ways to quickly get out unnoticed. Blue dragonborns reside in this coastal region, Hill of Lies: Home to various smaller patches of treacherous quicksand and plentiful castles and cities build amidst them, but an all permeating feeling of wrongness is felt as the central hill is influenced with ancient magic, the details of which carried by the ruling monarch, Pernicious Polder: The name says it all, many foul reeking waters and equally despicable peasants livening in the filth on land that has been reclaimed from the sea. There is an ongoing “rumor?” that there is immense wealth hidden deep in the undergrowth, Frozen Harbor: The wild whites have no need for peasants and castles, slaves, longboats, raiding and long-houses serve them just fine, they make a living by raiding the various buildings to the nearby coasts and ferrying the gained loot back home, Sapphire Isle: Build amidst an giant sapphire mine these castles have an unmissable Blue glow, the place might look like a happy place but there is a strange feeling of dread permeating the air. The general approach of the Chromatics is hoard wealth which is stolen from their peasants, nearby holds, their close relatives and inheritance. They are generally not too involved with nearby regions unless an especially ruthless and aspiring lords rises and manages to shape them into a fighting shape.

Interaction between Metallic and Chromatic:

The dragonborn are not too involved with the goings-on in nearby holds. Unless border conflicts demand their attention. Other than that, the lords have more than enough business to tend to, from the peasants seeking their support to other minor lords that are causing some problems. There are some expiations however, the main one being the intrigue of the greens and the warmongery of the reds.

Design of the lands:

Every hold has one royal dragonborn marked by their wings, tail and magnificent claws. The castle staff, in any case the higher of these (personal servants, higher guards, etc.) will be lesser dragonborn, marked by a lack of wings, tails and/or claws, these will be mostly of the same color as their lord but there are exceptions. The guardsmen and lower servants are mostly humans/non-dragonborn. The nearby villages that often time surround the colorful castles/keeps are inhabited by various non-dragonborn. The Dragonborn are generally not to concerned with a racist attitude towards the more exotic races, as long as the race is capable of serving them and is willing to do so. Cooperation between the various races is a must and lesser races that cause a conflict will be asked to leave, prime example being dragonborn. But social status and respect to those that stand above you is very important, failing to do so will quickly result in being banned, a few days in the stocks or even death if the insult is grave enough or if the lords is especially fickle

Threats of the region:

bandits and ruffians are a common threat, especially when close to the chromatic regions [Those that escape from the chromatic region are unlikely to find refuge in the holds of the metallics, as those that betray their lord don’t deserve any mercy]. Wild animals are also an ever-present threat in these mostly untamed lands. Raiding whites and invading chromatics can also be a problem [dependent on the neighbors]

Life in a castle hold:

The Noble dragonborn act as they see fit, not to concerned with the daily life of their peasants, they see themselves as superior to the rabble below them and their main concern in tendering to their hold. The peasants mainly worry about peasant things, like that broke plow, the groceries and “oh god, the whites can attack any moment!!”

Conflict with the Spearnia Dominion:

Some 150 Augor ago (Cycle 664) the Spearnia Dominion launched an very successful campaign (The Emerald onslaught) to invade the Vegly Province (it was called “The Emerald Realm” at that time), and it wouldn’t be unlikely for the Spearans to completely conquer the unprepared realm, if it wasn’t for the dwarves of the Chaoshorn’s Crest to offer protection to the Veglye, organize the Dragonborn region and broker peace with Spearans, a peace that was easily excepted by the ruling Spearan King, after all you can take it now, but the lords will eventually want more land, better save some for later.   Times have gone by, various generations have past away and the once forced alliances force in the heat of the Emerald onslaught have long since been broken or have been forgotten, and the lords have once again turned their attention towards themselves and their neighbors.
