Pygmy Owlbear
The Pygmy Owlbear is an endemic species to the temperate shrubland and woodland of the Scythar's Tail Peninsula. It is a small, omnivorous creature that mainly feeds off of larger spiders, insects, berries, and tree bark. They are small in stature, being about a foot tall and weighing around 20-30 pounds. They are cathermal creatures, being active sporadically throughout the day and night cycle.
The Pygmy Owlbear is directly related to the Northwestern Owlbear, though is clearly some form of magically altered species for the purpose of domestication. Likely domesticated by Goblins in Scythar's Tail, the Pygmy Owlbear was likely meant to aid with exterminating pests, herding Hillhens and other poultry, and as a general pet. It is also likely that there has never been a sizeable population of the species, and modern populations are somewhat low - putting the Pygmy Owlbear at the cusp of being endangered. Most currently live in wild colonies and exhibit cooperative and communal traits.
