Twilight Glows

"And when we meet the whole world slows, the city's leeched of all its woes,
and all that's wrong, well, it just seems alright,
Cos in your eyes, the Twilight Glows flare just like a starlit rose,
and I'll hold you close, and kiss you deep that night."
— "That Night", by Evie Byron Mendez
The Twilight Glows are a phenomenon similar to the northern lights which manifests as beautiful, glowing coloured lights in greens, pinks and purples. The Twilight Glows are caused by electrically charged sand particles hitting the Twilight City dome at high speed and a certain angle. The glows are often spotted several times a year, and are as iconic to Twilight City as the Twilight Tower a.k.a. Starrise Tower.

Damage to the Dome

Sandstorms against the dome can cause damage to the infrastructure, and particularly when they are strong enough to cause Twilight Glows. This means that the phenomenon is a sign to the city maintenance workers that the next clear day will be spent checking the dome for damage or gaps.

Cultural reception

Embraced by artists, poets and dreamers, the Twilight Glows are a symbol of romance that has found its way into a great deal of modern culture. The most famous song capturing the Twilight Glows is the famous love ballad "That Night," by Twilight City legend Evie Byron Mendez, whilst paintings - especially tourist souvenir art - of Twilight City often include the glows, despite the fact that the phenomenon is relatively rare. Small children often wish on the Twilight Glows, which is seen not as Religious Practices (which are banned) but as a revelation and manifestation of inner desires.
