Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota secede from the Union of American States and join the nation of Canada instead in response to changes in the US government.

At the same time as sustaining an incursion into Central America at this time, the US foolishly also attempted a quick military coup in the UK, seeing them as much-weakened and vulnerable, and also as a potential military staging point into Europe, should the need ever arise.   Ambitious and ludricrous, not to mention expensive, the effort only succeeded in damaging much of the UK infrastructure, the large part of which was never replaced, and permanently destroying any goodwill or allegiance that the two countries ever once shared.   The US were eventually forced to withdraw due to rising costs and stalling progress whilst the cost of their Central American conflict was also rising sharply.   UK residents consider this a victory comparable to the Battle of Britain, and many call it BoB2, hailing it as proof of the islands irrepressible defiance of all invasion attempts.

Richard Night at a young age became a partner in a construction company called Halsey Ferris and Night, which was a firm tackling massive corporate construction projects. With hard effort and excellent results, the firm prospered and all three partners became very wealthy men.

Australia reforms as the Federal Republic of Australia. Western Australia declares independence after rejecting the new government, they are backed by Arasaka.

The United States Government goes under a period of reform. The first post-martial law elections occur.

Taiwan declares independence with the assistance of the Arasaka Corporation.

The Orbital War begins. United States forces attack a soviet space installation, the EuroSpace Agency joins the conflict on the side of the soviets. The conflict lasts only a few weeks, and ends after intervention by the Luna Colony.

The United States begins operation to take control of the Crystal Palace space station, the Tycho mass driver delivers a warning to Washington D.C.

Japan is removed from the EEC. Japan establishes the New Yen currency. The Yen War begins in Europe, with Germany aiming to limit international corporations in Europe.

Arasaka discovers precious natural deposits under a facility in Africa. Militech supports the native population in removing Arasaka, they fail and Arasaka buy the rights to the land

Unification War ends by Free States signed a treaty known as the Treaty of Unification and Arasaka is welcomed back to Night City. They build their new American headquarters in the Corpo Plaza.
