Neural technologies

Neural interfacing opened up a lot of ways for our pink brains to interact with the cold world, not all of them useful, not all of them pleasant. Perhaps the most prominent one is BrainDance . Among others:
Wireheading = direct electronic stimulation of the pleasure center of the brain. Not surprisingly, it leads to psychological dependency. There is also risk of permanently damaging brain chemistry = losing IQ. Wireheading is cheap, totally addictive, and difficult to control even if illegal.
But luckily there is Neurotherapy. Surgically implanted circuits restore the damaged brain functions or serve as bridge between the injured and healthy areas of the brain. A neurotherapy implant can be implanted to neutralize mental or physical disadvantages that impair brain or neurological function, such as Dyslexia, Epilepsy, Killjoy, Non-Iconographic, Neurological Disorder, and Short Attention Span. 
Psych implants stimulate areas of the brain to produce conditional psychological reactions. They are used for treatment of mental disorders, or behavior correction. A psych implant gives the subject an additional mental disadvantage. Common implants induce Combat Paralysis, Gullibility, Pacifism, or Slave Mentality, and are used to restrain violent individuals or render the subject easily controllable. Illegal implants are available that compel Berserk, Dyslexia, Paranoia, or a Phobia.
Some cultures and religious communities don't get bogged down in the minutia of Pavlovian psychotherapy and go straight for lobotomy. Yes, seriously, in this day and age. Subjects lose all aggressive tendencies. Veggies also have trouble focusing, and even the simplest mental tasks require training and effort.
Deadheading is a more nuanced version of lobotomy. Certain areas of the brain are removed or deadened. Sometimes this is done out of mercy, but in many cases it is done as a form of punishment or behavior modification. A monk might have the sexual centers deadened in order to be able to completely resist temptation (although this has revived an ancient religious debate as to whether one can be said to avoid temptation if it is not physically possible for them to be tempted).
Killjoy procedure - brain's pleasure centers are removed, burned out, or incapacitated. The subject will never again appreciate the taste of good food, the joy of sex or the savage beauty of combat, though they can still participate in the activities. This has the secondary tendency to make them more docile and willing to follow orders; they won't even plot revenge against whoever killjoyed them, because there won't be any pleasure in it.
Hotshotting - the opposite of killjoying. In hotshotting, the brain's pleasure center is directly wired to another area of the brain. For example, a hotshot engineer gets warm feelings solving rocket science problems, because his pleasure center is activated at the same time as brain areas responsible for mathematical and analytical ability. Hotshot soldiers? Unspeakable! ;)
