The Goldscale Banking Company, often shortened to simply the Goldscale Bank or the G.B.C., is a global faction on the planet Cynos. The Goldscale Bank is responsible for the handling of most of the civilized world's money, offering Cynosians an unprecedented way to store and withdraw their wealth, especially for those who travel frequently. The company has establishments in most major cities worldwide, and anyone registers an account with the bank can deposit or withdraw gold from any of these locations. Thorough ledgers are magically kept and shared between banks; an accountholder's balance, transaction history and other financial information can be updated automatically across the globe.

Drakes

The GBC is responsible for the adoption of the uniform currency system used in most places across Cynos, as well as for the production and distribution of the legal tender. The coins were originally called scales in reference to their draconic origins, but have since become commonly named drakes due to the mistranslation of the word dracaega, which means scale in the draconic tongue. Drakes come in five varieties with increasing value. Originally there were only three: copper, silver, and gold, each increasing in value by a multiple of 10. Later, the electrum (5gd) and platinum drakes (10gd) were added to circulation as well. The Goldscale Bank can also write and redeem IOUs to simply large financial transactions.

Structure

The company's founder and CEO is the ancient golden dragon Nyzmuul. All manner of creatures work under Nyzmuul's employ, from humans, elves and the other civilized races to other metallic dragons. Nyzmuul has complete control over the company, but his inherently Lawful Good nature makes him an incorruptible leader. Bank branches are regionally run by their own staff of administrators; It is rare that Nyzmuul needs to leave his lair and visit any location in person. Instead, account ledgers and logs are magically sent to him so that he is always up-to-date on the state of his company and its clients. Doing business of any kind with the Goldscale Bank requires opening one of three types of accounts. All accounts allow for the storage and withdrawal of gold at any GBC location in Cynos, but the more expensive options offer features such as item storage and loan requests, as detailed below:

Public Agenda

The company's genuine intention is to bring order and sophistication to an otherwise cluttered and messy industry. Nyzmuul identified a need in the world and deemed himself capable of filling it. Golden dragons are inherently Lawful Good, so most of the educated world accepts his benevolence at face value. The fact that, by managing a global bank, Nyzmuul can satisfy his intrinsic, draconic attraction to large collections of treasure is inconsequential since his very nature prevents him from ever stealing any of it for himself. Plus, the company profits so much off of interest and annual fees that Nyzmuul's personal treasure hoard has become legendary all on its own. Now that the Goldscale Bank is well-established and their currency sees regular use worldwide, their primary goal is to maintain a reputation of reliability and security. Every bank relies heavily on magical protection measures to accomplish this.

Assets

The Goldscale Banking Company is easily the wealthiest organization on Cynos. Every GBC bank houses enormous amounts of gold, in addition to other valuable artifacts like gems, scrolls and magic items. To the public, the Goldscale Bank appears to have bottomless pockets. All this would make them a very desirable target for amateur and professional thieves alike if it weren't for the extensive magical protections and security personnel in place. It would take a burglar of legendary talent to steal from a GBC establishment.
