The Order of the Golden Sun
The Shield and Sword of the Purashran Church
When travelling in foreign lands, Golden Sun agents are ever-mindful that their jurisdiction is limited to Deusolom, and that they have no place enforcing their laws or even their virtues upon other nations or peoples. Instead, they strive to lead by example, careful not to overstep their bounds, but hopeful that others will follow in their holy footsteps.
The Order of the Golden Sun, often simplified to just the Golden Sun, is a military organization under the authority of the Purashran Church. It operates principally out of Castradeus and its jurisdiction includes (and is limited to) the entirety of Deusolom.
There is only one subbranch of the Golden Sun: The Inquisition, which exists for the sole purpose of finding and apprehending Moon-Touched individuals in Deusolom.
Structure
As would be expected of a Purashran organization, the Golden Sun operates with a strict and clear chain of command. Second to the Pontiff, the Bishop of War leads the Golden Sun as Chief Commander. The Bishop's most faithful servants would wear the title of Knight Commander, and each would take charge of a district of Castradeus, or one of the outposts spread out over Deusolom. A Knight Commander would lead a regiment of several hundred soldiers, delegating the training and supervision of units to appointed Knight Lieutenants.
The only other strand of the Golden Sun is called The Inquisition, and it operates with the sole objective of finding and apprehending Moon-Touched individuals on Deusolom. The Inquisition is lead by a Grand Inquisitor, who out-ranks any Knight Commander but still answers to the Bishop of War.
Public Agenda
Put plainly, the Golden Sun's agenda is to uphold the virtues of the Purashran Church. Since the Golden Sun is both the shield and sword of the Church, this means it wields the authority to apprehend criminals and deliver punishment as needed.
When travelling in foreign lands, Golden Sun agents are ever-mindful that their jurisdiction is limited to Deusolom, and that they have no place enforcing their laws or even their virtues upon other nations or peoples. Assets
The Order of the Golden Sun typically numbers at least 5,000 soldiers at any time; half of them based in Castradeus, the other half stationed in outposts across the country. Equipped with the resources of the capital, the Golden Sun has everything it needs to fulfill its duties. Weapons, armour, mounts and other equipment are all made available to them by the working citizens of the Gold Harbour.
Even though Castradeus's economy functions entirely without currency, the Golden Sun does keep a few thousand pieces' worth of Goldscale Drakes stored within its headquarters for use on foreign missions. The coins hold no financial value to the Order; they are considered a simple tool like any other.
History
When Pontiff Peregrin first set out for Deusolom, he travelled and sailed with several of his most devoted followers. It was the closest of these disciples that would form the first incarnation of The Conclave, although it had yet to be named. Peregrin bestowed upon each of his five most trusted followers the duty of upholding one of Ashra's five divine domains.
Smar Lusliut the disciple that was blessed with the domain of War. Chief among his responsibilities was arranging for the protection of the congregation from the dangers of the then-untamed Deusolom. A former military man himself, he was capable of training and organizing his small collection of volunteers into a capable fighting force. As years passed and the population of Castradeus grew, the Conclave would officially be established, and the newly-titled Bishop of War would dub his holy warriors the Order of the Golden Sun.
