The Inquisition
Hunters of Deusoli Moon-Touched
There are some who would tell you comforting lies, that the corruption that runs through your veins is a gift. It is a curse. A curse that will damn your spirit to an eternity of chaos and suffering. You did not choose this fate; it was thrust upon you in the dying act of a spiteful God. You are the victim, and I feel deeply for the pain that it has caused you. Were it possible, I would have liked nothing more than to have shielded you from her perversion. But I could not. We cannot. But we can save you. Trust in Ashra and his holy light. Let it purify your soul of all corruption, such that you may join him in the paradise beyond. You have been poisoned, but you can be cured.- Grand Inquisitor Eligius, speaking to Moon-Touched individuals in 76 ADB.
The Inquisitio Solis, more commonly known as simply The Inquisition, is a sub-group of the The Order of the Golden Sun located in Castradeus. Unlike the Golden Sun, whose duties are many, the Inquisition exists for one task only: to find and apprehend Moon-Touched individuals who are born in Deusolom. Once arrested, the Moon-Touched being is brought to Castradeus, where they are ceremoniously cremated in order to cleanse their soul of Boda's corruption.
Inquisitors are recognizable by the unique tear-drop shaped masks that conceal their identities. The masks are said to represent Ashra's tears as he weeps for the Moon-Touched victim.
Structure
The Inquisition is a much smaller organization than the Golden Sun, numbering only fifty inquisitors at any time. They are commanded by one Grand Inquisitor, who answers directly to the Bishop of War.
Public Agenda
There is nothing secretive about the Inquisition; the Purashran Church is entirely transparent about the purpose they serve. This openness is to their benefit; by establishing a reputation for grim efficiency, citizens of Deusolom are further discouraged from attempting to hide Moon-Touched beings from the eyes of the Church.
The Church, the Order and the Inquisition whole-heartedly believe that they are carrying out Ashra's will and are doing a service to their people by executing the Moon-Touched, and indeed, a service to the Moon-Touched themselves. Therefore, they wear no shame or guilt for their actions. Instead, they perform their duties with grim professionalism; solemn agents carrying out solemn work. Inquisitors are even known to be quite gentle when handling the condemned, especially if the prisoners are children, for they recognize that being born Moon-Touched is not a fate that one chooses for oneself.
However, this gentleness is not extended to anyone who has attempted to hide a Moon-Touched individual. The Church believes that doing so jeopardizes the safety of entire communities. Any citizen is expected to report a Moon-Touched being to the Church immediately, regardless of their personal ties to the being.
Assets
The Inquisition has access to all of the same resources as the Order of the Golden Sun, though its equipment needs are few. Horses, caged carriages and personal weapons and armour are all that the inquisitors require to carry out their task.
History
Compared to the millennia-old Purashran Church and Golden Sun, the Inquisition is a relatively brand-new organization. While Moon-Touched did exist before The Impact, they were extremely rare; most of Cynos had no reason to distinguish them from other spell-casters. After the Arcane Flood, however, Moon-Touched births began to occur regularly, and it wasn't long before the Purashran Church realized the source of the issue.
Believing that the phenomenon of Moon-Touched births to be Boda's final, dying curse upon Cynos, the Church created a specialized order of paladins to seek out the cursed children and bring them to Castradeus for purification.
