Kylin Pass

Kylin Pass is a mountain range that cuts across the land separating the North and the South. It acts as a barrier to prevent wars from spreading too far in either direction. Furthermore, Kylin Pass serves as the main guildhall of the Mage's Guild, allowing them to control the land and keep the separation between the North and the South.

Geography

The land of the mountains, as all mountains are, is rocky and rough. However, the mountains are also a lush area as it receives a large amount of rainfall during the year. Though never counted, it is thought that there are, in the range of, 20 individual peaks that make up the extensive mountain range. Many of the mountains have steep cliffs and high views of lush and overgrown valleys that are located in between the mountains. The valleys between the mountains are some of the deepest found in the world, many of them formed deep enough to go below the sea level, the mountains keeping the water away. The mountains are also visible from nearly 150 miles away, each peak towering some 20 thousand plus feet above the sea level. Where the mountains meet the sea, it drops away leaving hundred-foot towering cliffs, raging ocean tearing against them. This has lead to the formation of the Fluorescent Caves tunneled into the lower regions of the cliffs. Each aspect of the mountain ranges depicts a large variety of scenery while also making the mountains near impossible to traverse.

Fauna & Flora

Fauna

The rich environment of the range allows life to spring up all around. Animals of all varieties are able to survive in the climates around, both in the deep valleys and the high peaks. A variety of birds of prey take roost in both the peaks and the lower regions of the mountains, seeking out smaller prey, such as mice, in the peaks and larger prey, such as fish or rodents, in the valleys. The variety of birds include owls, hawks, and eagles, who tend towards the upper regions; among the lower regions, falcons, hawks, eagles, and some other species can be found. A variety of cat species are also found in the mountains, though tending to stay away from the upper peaks. Lynx are found the highest, straying between 5 and 15 thousand feet in elevation. Other cats, such as bobcats and cougars, are found in the middle ranges of the mountains, roughly 2-7 thousand feet of elevation. Other wild cats, such as tigers and regular wild cats, are found deeper in the valleys of the Kylin Pass. Wolves can also be found in abundance in the mountains, hunting out rodents and deer. Similar to the wolves, whisper wolves are also native to the land, though they rarely hunt preferring to simply wander around at night. Elk, deer, and moose, while often straying more towards the Northern boundaries of the mountains or the valleys, are common prey for the hunters of the mountains. Rivers and streams also house fish and frogs of all sorts. Few snakes and other insects can be found in the mountains, however, as the population tends to stay in the swamp to the East. The mountains offer a variety of habitats for animals to survive in.

Flora

The variation in the mountains also allows for the growth of flora. Flora of all variations can be found in the Kylin Pass where the mountains dip below, an average of, around 10-12 thousand feet above sea level. Following this "line" of distinction, few regular plants can be found. However, whisper trees, as the locals call them for the whispers they make as the wind moves their branches, will rarely be found below 9 thousand feet, meaning as all other vegetation falls away, the whisper trees are just beginning to pop up leading into the peaks of the mountains. However, they do reach their limit of height around 21 thousand feet, meaning some of the taller mountains have a barren peak. The valleys formed between the mountains are where most of the variations, such as plants that cannot pass 4 thousand feet altitude, are found. This includes all forms of trees, flowers, and shrubs. The animals of the area will tend to eat from the trees and berry bushes. The abundant flora are also used by the Mages of the area for the purpose of both food and medicine. Even so, the rate at which the fauna of the mountains destroys the growth of the plants doesn't slow down the growth as the flora continues to spread across the mountains.

Natural Resources

The Kylin Pass is known for being a rich area both in flora and geography. It is home to a variety of different materials that can usually only be found in the mountains as well as less rare materials. This included dune stones and whisper trees. These materials have come to be rare and expensive materials to use, but their ban on collection has made them uncommon across Cysian. More common materials are things such as fruit trees and a variety of minerals. However, as the Mage's Guild is in control of the mountains, the collection and gathering of natural resources was banned. Due to this, the only human structures within the mountains are the single guildhall and a few trails. All the natural resources that exist in the Kylin Pass are still collectible in sections of the other mountains to the north.
