Phadoya Sea

"Before the war, there was no Phadoya Sea. All this water you see here was once land."
Phadoya Sea is the ocean on the eastern half of the Old World archipelago. Home to a myriad of sea creatures, and ravaged by violent storms, Phadoya Sea is one of the most dangerous oceans on Dankar.

Geography

There are two parts to Phadoya Sea: the surface and the depths. Most people are talking about the top part when they mention Phadoya Sea.

The Surface

The "surface" is the region above the ocean's surface and the first few metres below it. The area has strong currents and is usually quite hard to navigate through. For most of the year, there are storms, except in the summer, where the weather is usually calmer. The winter months are the worst for the islands in the Old World, as the storms mean more floods. For sailors and adventurers, the fast current and high tides mean close encounters with death. Even for the Floating Islands above, it means they cannot get food from the sea nor can they travel like they used to.

The Depths

The other part of Phadoya Sea is deep underwater, a region called the Underseas. This region is full of scary aquatic creatures known to eat or poison people. The Underseas is often considered a world beneath the sea since the region has civilisations, ruins and creatures all close to each other.   The currents are not any better below the sea, but the people and animals have evolved to master these currents and use them to their advantage, something they think land dwellers are yet to learn.

History

Phadoya Sea is not an old ocean, as it was created around 200 years ago. Originally, it wasn't a large expanse, but a small sea in the middle of the continent once known as Phadoya. However, the Sentinel War came about in the final decades of the Age of Triumph and destroyed large parts of the landscape. The destruction created a gap through the continent, and the small sea became a large ocean over the years. Then, the Ice Age finished the job and split the continent in two.
